Individuals who will be involved in design and manufacturing of
finished products need to understand the grand spectrum of
manufacturing technology. Comprehensive and fundamental,
Manufacturing Technology: Materials, Processes, and Equipment
introduces and elaborates on the field of manufacturing technology
its processes, materials, tooling, and equipment. The book
emphasizes the fundamentals of processes, their capabilities,
typical applications, advantages, and limitations. Thorough and
insightful, it provides mathematical modeling and equations as
needed to enhance the basic understanding of the material at
hand.
Designed for upper-level undergraduates in mechanical,
industrial, manufacturing, and materials engineering disciplines,
this book covers complete manufacturing technology courses taught
in engineering colleges and institutions worldwide. The book also
addresses the needs of production and manufacturing engineers and
technologists participating in related industries.
Drug addiction remains one of the most important public health
problems in western societies and is a rising concern for
developing nations. Over the past 3 decades, experimental research
on the neurobiology and psychology of drug addiction has generated
a torrent of exciting data, from the molecular up to the behavioral
levels. As a result, a new and pressing challenge for addiction
research is to formulate a synthetic theoretical framework that
goes well beyond mere scientific eclectism to deepen our
understanding of drug addiction and to foster our capacity to
prevent and to cure drug addiction. Intrigued by the apparent
irrational behavior of drug addicts, researchers from a wide range
of scientific disciplines have formulated a plethora of theoretical
schemes over the years to understand addiction. However, most of
these theories and models are qualitative in nature and are
formulated using terms that are often ill-defined. As a result, the
empirical validity of these models has been difficult to test
rigorously, which has served to generate more controversy than
clarity. In this context, as in other scientific fields,
mathematical and computational modeling should contribute to the
development of more testable and rigorous models of addiction.
This new edition textbook provides comprehensive knowledge and
insight into various aspects of manufacturing technology,
processes, materials, tooling, and equipment. Its main objective is
to introduce the grand spectrum of manufacturing technology to
individuals who will be involved in the design and manufacturing of
finished products and to provide them with basic information on
manufacturing technologies. Manufacturing Technology: Materials,
Processes, and Equipment, Second Edition, is written in a
descriptive manner, where the emphasis is on the fundamentals of
the process, its capabilities, typical applications, advantages,
and limitations. Mathematical modeling and equations are used only
when they enhance the basic understanding of the material dealt
with. The book is a fundamental textbook that covers all the
manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment used to convert
the raw materials to a final product. It presents the materials
used in manufacturing processes and covers the heat treatment
processes, smelting of metals, and other technological processes
such as casting, forming, powder metallurgy, joining processes, and
surface technology. Manufacturing processes for polymers, ceramics,
and composites are also covered. The book also covers surface
technology, fundamentals of traditional and nontraditional
machining processes, numerical control of machine tools, industrial
robots and hexapods, additive manufacturing, and industry 4.0
technologies. The book is written specifically for undergraduates
in industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, and materials engineering
disciplines of the second to fourth levels to cover complete
courses of manufacturing technology taught in engineering colleges
and institutions all over the world. It also covers the needs of
production and manufacturing engineers and technologists
participating in related industries where it is expected to be part
of their professional library. Additionally, the book can be used
by students in other disciplines concerned with design and
manufacturing, such as automotive and aerospace engineering.
This volume contains the proceedings of the Falk Workshop on Bile
Acids in Hepatobiliary Disease, which took place at the Royal
Society of Medicine (RSM) in London, UK, on 29-30 March 1999, and
was held in association with the Section of Measurement in Medicine
at the RSM. The main interest in bile acid therapy has been
recently in cholestatic liver disease. The proceedings of the
workshop not only discusses this, but moves on to examine its
possible use in alcoholic liver disease, and moves back to
re-examine its role in biliary disease. Leading world experts
attempt to define its mechanism of action, and the current role of
other non-surgical treatments in biliary disease. The physiology
and pathogenesis of cholestatic and alcoholic liver disease and
cholesterol gallstone disease is also examined.
Presenting encryption algorithms with diverse characteristics,
Image Encryption: A Communication Perspective examines image
encryption algorithms for the purpose of secure wireless
communication. It considers two directions for image encryption:
permutation-based approaches and substitution-based approaches.
Covering the spectrum of image encryption principles and
techniques, the book compares image encryption with permutation-
and diffusion-based approaches. It explores number theory-based
encryption algorithms such as the Data Encryption Standard, the
Advanced Encryption Standard, and the RC6 algorithms. It not only
details the strength of various encryption algorithms, but also
describes their ability to work within the limitations of wireless
communication systems. Since some ciphers were not designed for
image encryption, the book explains how to modify these ciphers to
work for image encryption. It also provides instruction on how to
search for other approaches suitable for this task. To make this
work comprehensive, the authors explore communication concepts
concentrating on the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
(OFDM) system and present a simplified model for the OFDM
communication system with its different implementations. Complete
with simulation experiments and MATLAB (R) codes for most of the
simulation experiments, this book will help you gain the
understanding required to select the encryption method that best
fulfills your application requirements.

This new edition of Ahmed and Spreadbury's excellent textbook
Electronics for Engineers provides, like the first edition, an
introduction to electronic circuits covering the early part of
degree level courses in electronics and electrical engineering. The
text of the first edition has been entensively revised and
supplemented to bring it up to date; two entirely new chapters have
been added on the subject of digital electronics. A first chapter
on the general principles of signal handling in electronic circuits
is followed by descriptions of amplifiers using field-effect and
bipolar transistors and integrated circuit op-amps, written from
the point of view of the engineering student building up a system.
Subsequent chapters discuss the principles of applying negative and
positive feedback in amplifiers, leading the reader to the final
two chapters covering digital circuits and their applications. All
chapters conclude with a solved problem followed by a number of
practice questions from various universities to which answers are
given. This new edition, like the first, will prove a valuable text
for first and second year courses in universities and polytechnics
on electronics and electrical engineering and will be useful to
practising engineers and scientists who need to use analogue and
digital chips in the course of their work.
