Das Werk stellt die Ergebnisse einer eingehenden psychiatrischen/psychotherapeutischen Untersuchung an 400 internistischen und chirurgischen Patienten dar. Der Autor beschrankt sich nicht nur auf die Erhebung psychischer Storungen, sondern beschreibt auch die Indikationshaufigkeiten fur Konsiliar-/Liaisoninterventionen, psychotherapeutische, pharmakotherapeutische und soziotherapeutische Verfahren. Ziel der 4. Gasteiger Gesprache war es, persoenliche Therapiege wohnheiten erfahrener Facharzte mit Psychopharmaka zu dis kutieren. Aus dem Konsens sollten wiederum die bereits be kannten Merksatze fur den Praktiker abgeleitet werden. Ein Schwerpunkt der Veranstaltung war die Gegenuberstellung der Wirksamkeit alter und neuer Medikamente. Hier galt es vor allen Dingen darzustellen, wo die langerprobten Antidepressiva hilfreich sind und wo evtl. die neuen Substanzen besondere Therapievorteile bieten. Es wurde besonders herausgearbeitet, an welchem Punkt der Allgemeinarzt bzw. der Internist bei der Anwendung der verschiedenen Substanzen bzw. bei der Behand lung bestimmter Stadien von psychiatrischen Erkrankungen einen Facharzt zu Rate ziehen sollte. Ausserdem wurde der Einsatzbereich von Antidepressiva und Neuroleptika bei Angst- und Panikerkrankungen eroertert. Dis kussionspunkte waren auch die Probleme, die bei der Benutzung der Diagnostischen Manuals ICD 10 und DSM-III-R bei Allge meinarzten und Internisten auftreten koennen. Hier weisen die Merksatze fur die Praxis darauf hin, inwieweit durch eine gezielte Fragestellung eine Diagnose moeglich ist. Die umfassen de Exploration sollte dem Facharzt vorbehalten bleiben. Auf grosses Interesse stiessen auch die Beitrage der Kinderpsy chiatrie, die aufzeigten, dass die Wurzeln fur psychiatrische Erkrankungen oft schon in der Kindheit liegen. Durch Psycho therapie und den verantwortungsvollen Einsatz von Psycho pharmaka sind Pravention und Hilfe moeglich. Der Einsatz von Psychopharmaka ist ein wichtiger Baustein in einem Gesamt konzept.
