diversity as clearly as the Wasatch Front. "Utah Reflections:

distinctive geography, from Cache Valley to Salt Lake City to
Provo. Contributors include Lance Larson, Katharine Coles, Phyllis
Barber, Sylvia Torti, Chadd VanZanten, Pam Houston and Terry
Tempest Williams, as well as other exciting established and new
voices. Each piece was thoughtfully selected as part of a sweeping
panorama of cultural history and the traditions of a people bound
to the region to show what makes the Wasatch Front unique,
prosperous and beloved.
African Americans migrated from southern regions of the United
States, the Caribbean, and Africa during the early 20th century,
settling in large urban communities in the Midwestern, Northern,
and Western regions of the United States. During the early 21st
century, African Americans continued their post-industrialized
transition from their initial urban locations to suburban and
exurban locations, with class, income, and education being the
predominant factors in determining locations of choice. However,
the result of this 21st century exodus gave rise to an increased
sense of isolation, loss of identify, and the gradual erosion of
political power unique to urban communities in the late 20th
century. African American Suburbanization and the Consequential
Loss of Identity is a critical scholarly resource that examines the
experiences of African Americans and the development of African
American identities. It represents an important opportunity for an
examination of the implications of this 21st century exodus, giving
voice to all aspects of African American-lived experiences in

The case of Kosovo is distinct and does not represent a precedent
for independence for separatist movements in Abkhazia, South
Ossetia, Transdniestria, or Nagorno-Karabakh. This paper examines
all five cases, with particular attention given to three factors
for analysis: the intractability of each conflict, potential
viability of the region as an independent state, and the impact of
external influences. The results of this examination are presented
in both matrix and narrative form. Overwhelmingly, it is the impact
of external influences-the engagement of the international
community-which has shaped Kosovo's situation, rendering it
fundamentally different from the cases in Russia's near-abroad.
