Biomedical images, such as X-ray, CT scan, MRI, etc., are
extensively used in diagnosis of diseases, research & teaching
in medical science, administration & management of hospital,
information for the third party like medico-legal situation &
health insurance, and so on. An integrated and efficient biomedical
image management system is very essential for the modern healthcare
system. In this regard, a prototype system is designed using Java
Server Pages in the frontend and MySQL in the backend. And it is
applied in three hospitals, named Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan,
Hospital Selayang, and Hospital Kuala Lumpur. From these three case
studies, it is seen that our designed biomedical image management
system possesses several attractive features including user
friendly, secured and stable, extensible and able to support all
image modality, integrated with the hospital information system.
The results show that vitiligo are quite prevalent and constitute a
major psychological health problem in Bangladesh. The occurrence of
diabetes mellitus, liver function test, renal function test,
hypertension related to lipid profile and others biochemical test
like uric acid, hemoglobin and specially performed T3, T4, TSH for
thyroid diseases were more frequent among the patients.
Particularly thyroid diseases and insulin dependent diabetes
mellitus had a great interrelation with vitiligo. Significant
change in serum total protein among the patients of age group below
10 and 11-20 years was observed. No major changes were observed for
ALT, AST, ALP, TC, HDL, TG and LDL. Disease incidence was the
highest 44% among 11-20 years age group. In the case of sex
incidence the female patients were 56%; on the other hand male
recorded 44%. The students were the highest percentage (48%)
suffering with vitiligo. The lesion of the vitiligo patients was
seen 85% on the exposed parts of the body. Family history was the
most important and 32% patients told that they had prior family
history. Eighty percent patients expressed that most of the persons
avoid them for marital relationship.
Solving the grand challenge problems in many areas such as
development of new materials and sources of energy, development of
new medicines and improved health care, strategies for disaster
prevention and mitigation, and for scientific research including
the origins of matter and the universe, requires Teraflops
performance for more than a thousand hours at a time. In future, we
will need Petaflops or Exaflops level of computation power. To
achieve this level of performance, we need massively parallel
computer (MPC) systems with millions of nodes. k-ary n-cube is a
node and edge symmetric regular network, which has an ability to
exploit locality exhibited by many parallel applications. However,
high wiring complexity make it insatiable for a network consisting
of millions of nodes. Hierarchical interconnection network (HIN) is
an efficient way to interconnect the future MPC systems. k-ary
n-cube based HIN is a plausible alternative way because each level
of hierarchy have toroidal interconnections. Several k-ary n-cube
based HINs and their routing algorithm, static network performance,
and dynamic communication performance has been extensively studied
in this book.
