The complete collection of ancient Egyptian love songs, whose texts were first written down in the Ramesside period, is treated in the context of other period sources regarding intimacy and sexuality. The process of gendering and socialising in relation to sexuality is also introduced. The volume will also contain overview tables - ostraca or papyri, their site(s), documentation), publications, etc. Statistics or quantification of some lexical and semantic units in the songs is attempted. The volume consists of an introductory study and commented texts of the songs, grouped thematically. Includes CD.
The book is an introduction to the Egyptian revival in its Czech - and by extension in its central European - context in the 19th and 20th centuries. Unlike the well-known and egregiously documented phenomenon of Egyptomania in both France and Britain, the Egyptian revival in Central Europe has thus far received little attention. The present study takes a closer look at how a part of the former central European Habsburg Empire, Bohemia, maintained relations with both the ancient and the modern Orient. The results of these diverse contacts might not be as imposing or eye-catching as elsewhere in Europe, but they offer a no less interesting look at how different aspects of the Orient were received and perceived in Europe.
The modern view of the ancient Egyptian world is often through the lens of a scribe: the trained, schooled, literate individual who was present at many levels of Egyptian society, from a local accountant to the highest echelons of society. And yet, despite the wealth of information the scribes left us, we know relatively little about what underpinned their world, about their mentality and about their everyday life. Ancient Egyptian Scribes examines how these figures kept both the administrative life and cultural memory of Egypt running. These are the Egyptians who ran the state and formed the supposedly meritocratic system of local administration and government. Case studies look at accountants, draughtsmen, scribes with military and dynastic roles, the authors of graffiti and literati who interacted in different ways with Pharaohs and other leaders. Assuming no previous knowledge of ancient Egypt, and ensuring accessibility for students and non-specialists, the various roles and identities of the scribes are presented in a way that offers structured information on their cultural identity and self-presentation, and provides readers with an insight into the making of Egyptian written culture.

This is the first volume of an intended series on visitors' graffiti. It deals with the visitors' graffiti from Abusir (monuments of the 5th Dynasty) and Northern Saqqara (the pyramid complex of Djoser). It contains a catalogue of graffiti, and interpretative essays on the authors, contents and possible meaning of these often quoted, but underestimated texts. This volume will offer the first complete publication of graffiti documented by B Gunn in Djoser's complex.
