Believing she's killed a suitor, Lady Cassandra Spathe flees
England. She signs the Articles of Indenture for free passage to
America, confident a friend in Boston will pay her fee. Her ship
lands in Virginia, however, and she's sold as an indentured
servant. A tag around her neck proclaims her to be Cassy Spade,
seamstress. Her buyer, Jason Anders, is a former transported
convict who was himself indentured. Since his release, Jason has
become a wealthy ironmaster and now aspires to become a gentleman.
He purchases Cassy's indenture as much for the polish he thinks she
can give him as her sewing ability. Fascinated from the first by
the feisty young woman, Jason works hard to ignore her allure. He's
made fair treatment of indentured servants central to his campaign
for the Virginia House of Burgesses and knows any attempted
seduction could put his political future at risk. For her part,
Cassy is bewildered by her attraction to a man she's been taught is
her social inferior. She's captivated by Jason's drive to improve
himself and his situation. His untrammeled masculinity fills her
with longing instead of disgust. When these two opposites unite,
combustion is inevitable. Theirs is a passion as wild and raw as
the land they live in. EDITORIAL REVIEWS - "Meredith touches the
