Das vorliegende Buch ist aus einer zweistundigen Vorlesung ent- standen, die ich an der Ruhr-Universitat Bochum fur Student en ge- halten habe, die bereits Grllndkenntnisse der Physik erworben und ein entsprechendes Anfangerpraktikum absolviert haben. Das Spektrum der physikalischen MeBmethoden hat heute eine derartige Breite erreicht, und die rasche Weiterentwicklung halt an, daB eine den Gesamtbereich der Physik umfassende Darstellung nur in vielbandigen Werken moglich ist [0.1-0.3J. Auch dort ist die Behandlung nicht mehr im Detail erschopfend, der Experimentator wird im Einzelfall auf die das betreffende Gebiet relevante Spe- zialliteratur zuruckgreifen mussen. Das Anliegen dieses Buches ist es daher, zunachst allgemeine Prinzipien zu behandeln, die bei der P-lanung, Durchfuhrung, Aus- wertung und Analyse von Experimenten eine Rolle spielen. Die weitere Auswahl leiteten Gesichtspunkte wie: welche MeBmethoden, konkreten MeBverfahren und Hilfsmittel sind von breitem Interesse, werden in vielen Teilgebieten der Physik angewandt oder sind vielleicht besonders instruktiv oder interessant. Meine Erfahrun- gen mit der Anleitung von Studenten zu wissenschaftlichem Arbeiten fuhrten dann dazu, daB einige Themen ausfuhrlicher behandelt wer- den. Eine Ausgewogenheit war nicht beabsichtigt, doch konnte aus diesem Grund das eine oder andere Kapitel auch fur den.bereits in der Praxis tatigen Wissenschaftler oder Ingenieur von Nutzen sein. Meinem Kollegen Prof. B. Kronast und vielen meiner Mitarbeiter mochte ich fur die kritische Durchsicht des Manuskripts und Anre- gungen herzlich danken.
