The low-carbon transition is ongoing everywhere. This Handbook,
written by a group of senior and junior scholars from six
continents and nineteen countries, explores the legal pathways of
decarbonisation in the energy sector. What emerges is a composite
picture. There are many roadblocks, but also a lot of legal
innovation. The volume distils the legal knowledge which should
help move forward the transition. Questions addressed include the
differences between the decarbonization strategies of developed and
developing countries, the pace of the transition, the management of
multi-level governance systems, the pros and cons of different
policy instruments, the planning of low-carbon infrastructures, the
roles and meanings of energy justice. The Handbook can be drawn
upon by legal scholars to compare decarbonisation pathways in
several jurisdictions. Non-legal scholars can find information to
be included in transition theories and decarbonization scenarios.
Policymakers can discover contextual factors that should be taken
into account when deciding how to support the transition.
This book explores the dynamics and vibration properties of
gearboxes, with a focus on geared rotor systems. It discusses
mechanical theories, finite-element based simulations, experimental
measurements and vibration signal processing techniques. It
introduces the vibration-resonance calculation method for the
geared rotor system in wind turbines and load sharing of the
planetary gear train, and offers a method for calculating the
vibrations of geared rotor systems under either internal
excitations from gear sets or external loads transferred from wind
loads. It also defines and elaborates on parameter optimization for
planetary gear systems based on the torsional dynamics of
wind-turbine geared rotor systems. Moreover, it describes
experimental measurements of vibrations on the wind-turbine gearbox
performed on the test rig and on site, and analyzes the vibration
signals of different testing points, showing them in both time and
frequency domains. Lastly, it lists the gear coupling frequencies
and fault characteristic frequencies from the vibrations of the
gearbox housing. The technologies and results presented are
valuable resources for use in dynamic design, vibration prediction
and analysis of gearboxes and geared rotor systems in wind turbines
as well as many other machines.
This thesis adopts the relative back-projection method to
dramatically reduce "swimming" artifacts by identifying the rupture
fronts in the time window of a reference station; this led to a
faster and more accurate image of the rupture processes of
earthquakes. Mitigating the damage caused by earthquakes is one of
the primary goals of seismology, and includes saving more people's
lives by devising seismological approaches to rapidly analyze an
earthquake's rupture process. The back-projection method described
in this thesis can make that a reality.
This book studies the urban logistics system from the perspective
of reliability, based on the theory of urban logistics and system
reliability, with the research of urban logistics system
reliability as the main line, with matter element analysis and ant
colony algorithm as the main research tools. On this basis, this
book closely focuses on the connotation, influencing factors,
measurement, optimization, and other issues of the reliability of
urban logistics systems. By analyzing the influencing factors and
constituent contents of the reliability of urban logistics system,
the reliability measurement is researched, and the reliability
optimization model of urban logistics system is established, which
is suitable for popular science reading or in-depth study by
readers with a certain foundation.
In Climate Change Law in China in Global Context, seven climate
change law scholars explain how the country's legal system is
gradually being mobilized to support the reduction of greenhouse
gas emissions in China and achieve adaptation to climate change.
There has been little English scholarship on the legal regime for
climate change in China. This volume addresses this gap in the
literature and focuses on recent attempts by the country to build
defences against the impacts of climate change and to meet the
country's international obligations on mitigation. The authors are
not only interested in China's laws on paper; rather, the book
explains how these laws are implemented and integrated in practice
and sheds light on China's current laws, laws in preparation, the
changing standing of law relative to policy, and the further
reforms that will be necessary in response to the 2015 Paris
Agreement on Climate Change. This comprehensive and critical
account of the Chinese legal system's response to the pressures of
climate change will be an important resource for scholars of
international law, environmental law, and Chinese law.
This textbook introduces systems science as an entry point to
present a basic introduction to research models and methods in
management science (operation research). This textbook selects the
classic quantitative models and methods as well as rich cases and
detailed examples, which are suitable for students with a certain
management and economics knowledge for further study, and helps to
develop the abilities of using the basic models in real life.

This SpringerBrief summarizes the development of Distributed Hash
Table in both academic and industrial fields. It covers the main
theory, platforms and applications of this key part in distributed
systems and applications, especially in large-scale distributed
environments. The authors teach the principles of several popular
DHT platforms that can solve practical problems such as load
balance, multiple replicas, consistency and latency. They also
propose DHT-based applications including multicast, anycast,
distributed file systems, search, storage, content delivery
network, file sharing and communication. These platforms and
applications are used in both academic and commercials fields,
making Distributed Hash Table a valuable resource for researchers
and industry professionals.

Sediments, which constitute the surface of the Earth, start their
journey to rivers with the energy obtained from rainfalls, fl oods
and other natural processes. Due to transport of sediments, rivers
develop with various appearances and functions, and play a crucial
role in the activities of human beings and the life cycles of other
species. River sediment, as a conventional topic for river
management, has been the topic of continuing research since ancient
times, and since then significant progresses in river sediment
research has been made. Nowadays, river sediment is much more
connected to the activities of mankind and other species, following
the increasing awareness of the co-existence of humans and nature.
Advances in River Sediment Research comprises the proceedings of
the 12th International Symposium on River Sedimentation (ISRS2013,
Kyoto, Japan, 2-5 September 2013). The book contains two keynote
papers and 274 peer-reviewed regular contributions from all over
the world, and covers recent accomplishments in theoretical
developments, numerical simulations, laboratory experiments, field
investigations and management methodologies of river sediment
related issues. The book may serve as a reference book for graduate
students, researchers, engineers and practitioners in disciplines
of hydraulic, environmental, agricultural and geological
engineering.
