The 1930's marked the beginning of modern science fiction. During
this period, one of the most prolific writers was Harl Vincent. His
works appeared regularly in the major pulp magazines of the period,
primarily Amazing Stories and Astounding Stories. A practicing
mechanical engineer specializing in electrical apparatus for
Westinghouse, his stories were full of the super scientific devices
and intrepid heroes battling alien forces so popular during this
era, but there was also a sense of wonder and excitement at the
possibilities of the new world that science and technology could
bring. Resurrected Press is proud to offer this collection of some
of his best stories, including: Old Crompton's Secret, The Terror
of Air-Level Six, Silver Dome, Vagabonds of Space, Gray Denim,
Terrors Unseen, The Moon Weed, The Copper-Clad World, Creatures of
Vibration, Vulcan's Workshop, Wanderer of Infinity
In the tradition of the old "Ace Doubles" two-in-one books (flip
one over to read the second title) -- here is the first Wildside
Double . . . "The Sargasso of Space and Two Others," by Edmond
Hamilton and "The Copper-Clad World," by Harl Vincent. Two oldtime
science fiction authors at their galaxy-spanning best!
Deep in the heart of the galaxy the unknown planet spun like a vast
spider in its web, radiating a deadly and mysterious energy. Far
out in space aboard the ethership Meteoric, Donley was the first to
sense the sinister, almost imperceptible attraction of the strange
power source. Then the others felt it too - the monotonous
throbbing that pulsed through the ship, the altered sensations of
every man on board. Slowly, inexorably, the crew of the Meteoric
felt themselves being pulled toward-what? Hovering on the outermost
edge of space, the rogue planet Ormin was waiting to receive them.
Ormin, the Doomsday Planet, where all who set foot there were
doomed to living death . . .
