Research efforts to explore the etiological factors in
Schizophrenia have identified the influence of season. Winter
season appears to be associated with incidence of schizophrenia, it
has been suggested that there is an excess of winter births among
schizophrenic patients. There is need to explore the underlying
mechanisms for excessive winter births among schizophrenic
patients. A survey was carried out to find out the phenomenon of
seaonality and its impact on schizophrenic incidence and it was
found that majority of schizophrenic patients were born in winter
season, thus suggesting a role of seasonality as a cuasal or
precipitating factor in schizophrenia.
