Give it to Moore, He Will Score! is the authorised biography of footballing icon Ian Storey-Moore, Nottingham Forest’s legendary forward of the 1960s and early 70s. Scoring more than 100 top-flight goals for Forest, he became the most sought-after striker in the land. An England international, injury robbed him of numerous caps and a place at the Mexico 1970 World Cup. Moore’s sensational on-off transfer to Derby County for a British record fee was front-page news and left Brian Clough unable to speak to him for two decades. Joining Manchester United instead, he played alongside Best, Law and Charlton before sampling life in the nascent US soccer scene. Here, for the first time, the authors tell the full story of Moore’s life and career, drawing on their extensive interviews with him, his personal scrapbooks and their own first-hand memories. With Moore still a hugely popular figure among fans, his story is essential reading for Forest and United supporters, plus anyone with an interest in football history.

Came the Lightening - Twenty Poems for George (Hardcover): Olivia Harrison Came the Lightening - Twenty Poems for George (Hardcover)
Olivia Harrison; Foreword by Martin Scorsese
R655 Discovery Miles 6 550 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

'Here on the shore, twenty years later, my message in a bottle has reached dry land. Words about our life, his death but mostly love and our journey to the end.' - Olivia Harrison Olivia Harrison presents Came the Lightening, a book of twenty poems dedicated to George, marking the twentieth year since his passing. As a contributor to the book Concert for George, the revised edition of I Me Mine, and George Harrison: Living in the Material World, Olivia is no stranger to writing beautiful words that have an ethereal connection to love. These poems are accompanied by a selection of photographs and mementos curated by Olivia, including pictures of herself and George. Came the Lightening sees Olivia reflect upon her life with George, examining the intimacy of the emotional bond in their relationship through a memorable series of poems. She delves into the phenomenon of losing a partner and the passage of time. In essence, this is a story of love. 'Olivia evokes the most fleeting gestures and instants, plucked from the flow of time and memory and felt through her choice of words and the overall rhythm... She might have done an oral history or a memoir. Instead, she composed a work of poetic autobiography.' - Martin Scorsese

Imitative Series and Clusters from Classical to Early Modern Literature (Hardcover): Colin Burrow, Stephen J Harrison, Martin... Imitative Series and Clusters from Classical to Early Modern Literature (Hardcover)
Colin Burrow, Stephen J Harrison, Martin McLaughlin, Elisabetta Tarantino
R3,990 Discovery Miles 39 900 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume shows the pervasiveness over a millennium and a half of the little-studied phenomenon of multi-tier intertextuality, whether as 'linear' window reference - where author C simultaneously imitates or alludes to a text by author A and its imitation by author B - or as multi-directional imitative clusters. It begins with essays on classical literature from Homer to the high Roman empire, where the feature first becomes prominent; then comes late antiquity, a lively area of research at present; and, after a series of essays on European neo-Latin literature from Petrarch to 1600, another area where developments are moving rapidly, the volume concludes with early modern vernacular literatures (Italian, French, Portuguese and English). Most papers concern verse, but prose is not ignored. The introduction to the volume discusses the relevant methodological issues. An Afterword outlines the critical history of 'window reference' and includes a short essay by Professor Richard Thomas, of Harvard University, who coined the term in the 1980s.

It was in Paris in 1927, at an exhibition dedicated to Picasso, that Francis Bacon grasped his vocation as a painter. In 1946, he moved to Monaco on the French Riviera where he lived for four years, his time in the Principality marking a turning point in his art; with his popes series, he became a painter of the human figure. In Paris he befriended artists and intellectuals, such as Giacometti and Leiris, whilst the city would become the setting for the crystalisation of his reputation in 1971 with the retrospective at the Grand Palais. In 1975, Bacon would take a studio in the Marais district. This bilingual publication co-published by Albin Michel and The Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation tells of Bacon s deep ties with France and Monaco, and has been overseen by Martin Harrison, author of Francis Bacon: Catalogue Raisonne and curator of the coinciding exhibition Francis Bacon, Monaco et la culture franc aise which runs at Grimaldi Forum, Monaco from 2 July 2016 until 4 September 2
