Structural Modeling and Experimental Techniques presents a current treatment of structural modeling for applications in design, research, education, and product development. Providing numerous case studies throughout, the book emphasizes modeling the behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete and masonry structures.
Structural Modeling and Experimental Techniques:
o Concentrates on the modeling of the true inelastic behavior of structures o Provides case histories detailing applications of the modeling techniques to real structures o Discusses the historical background of model analysis and similitude principles governing the design, testing, and interpretation of models o Evaluates the limitations and benefits of elastic models o Analyzes materials for reinforced concrete masonry and steel models o Assesses the critical nature of scale effects of model testing o Describes selected laboratory techniques and loading methods o Contains material on errors as well as the accuracy and reliability of physical modeling o Examines dynamic similitude and modeling techniques for studying dynamic loading of structures o Covers actual applications of structural modeling
This book serves students in model analysis and experimental methods, professionals manufacturing and testing structural models, as well as professionals testing large or full-scale structures - since the instrumentation techniques and overall approaches for testing large structures are very similar to those used in small-scale modeling work.

This book discusses how consultations with young children could
signal a change of thinking about how children might influence
policy and shape the development of a child-friendly state. While
the consultations in this study were germane to political
decisions, they took place as multi-modal dialogue with children in
their educational settings. Framed by Australia's national early
years learning framework which focuses on children's belonging and
identity, the consultations saw unique partnerships formed among
children, educators, families and policy officers, providing ways
in which children's voices may be engaged in educational spaces
throughout the world. Using a qualitative case study approach,
these consultations were documented through observations,
interviews, artefact collection and document analyses, allowing the
authors to construct a framework for engaging children as citizens
that is transferable to a variety of settings. Chapters provide: *
an insight into the various aspects involved in children's
consultations from conceptualizing and planning consultations with
young children, to implementation and documentation, through to the
uptake and consequence of children's messages; * factors that
contribute to the effectiveness of consultations, challenges that
arise, and areas for improvement when engaging with children's
voices; * implications for children's participation as valued
citizens and a framework for considering young children's voices in
decision-making processes. This book offers fresh ideas for working
with young children in the decision making process and will appeal
to early childhood researchers, educators, policymakers and
practitioners across various sectors, agencies and disciplines.
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two
young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother's coffin as
the world watched in sorrow-and horror. As Princess Diana was laid
to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry
must be thinking and feeling-and how their lives would play out
from that point on. For Harry, this is that story at last. Before
losing his mother, twelve-year-old Prince Harry was known as the
carefree one, the happy-go-lucky Spare to the more serious Heir.
Grief changed everything. He struggled at school, struggled with
anger, with loneliness-and, because he blamed the press for his
mother's death, he struggled to accept life in the spotlight. At
twenty-one, he joined the British Army. The discipline gave him
structure, and two combat tours made him a hero at home. But he
soon felt more lost than ever, suffering from post-traumatic stress
and prone to crippling panic attacks. Above all, he couldn't find
true love. Then he met Meghan. The world was swept away by the
couple's cinematic romance and rejoiced in their fairy-tale
wedding. But from the beginning, Harry and Meghan were preyed upon
by the press, subjected to waves of abuse, racism, and lies.
Watching his wife suffer, their safety and mental health at risk,
Harry saw no other way to prevent the tragedy of history repeating
itself but to flee his mother country. Over the centuries, leaving
the Royal Family was an act few had dared. The last to try, in
fact, had been his mother. . . . For the first time, Prince Harry
tells his own story, chronicling his journey with raw, unflinching
honesty. A landmark publication, Spare is full of insight,
revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal
power of love over grief.

The current volume includes chapters on peroxisomal disorders,
genetic aspects of cancer, Gaucher disease, and other topics.
During the last few years the science of human genetics has been
expanding almost explosively. Original papers dealing with
different aspects of the subject are appearing at an increasingly
rapid rate in a very wide range of journals, and it becomes more
and more difficult for the geneticist and virtually impossible for
the non geneticist to keep track of the develop ments. Furthermore,
new observations and discoveries relevant to an overall
understanding of the subject result from investigations using very
diverse techniques and methodologies and originating in a variety
of different disciplines. Thus, investigations in such various
fields as enzymology, immunology, protein chemistry, cytology,
pediatrics, neurology, internal medicine, anthropology, and
mathematical and statistical genetics, to name but a few, have each
contributed results and ideas of general significance to the study
of human genetics. Not surprisingly it is often difficult for
workers in one branch of the subject to assess and assimilate
findings made in another. This can be a serious limiting factor on
the rate of progress. Thus, there appears to be a real need for
critical review articles which summarize the positions reached in
different areas, and it is hoped that "Advances in Human Genetics"
will help to meet this requirement. Each of the contributors has
been asked to write an account of the position that has been
reached in the investigations of a specific topic in one of the
branches of human genetics."
