Digitisation has been a hot topic in newspaper librarianship for
some years now; it came as a godsend for many bulky and
space-consuming collections. The major part of this volume
comprises the papers given at the international conference on
newspaper digitisation held at the University of Utah, Salt Lake
City (May 2006) and presents the state of the art, including
experiences from current British and North American projects. This
material is complemented by presentations from the World Library
and Information Congress in Seoul (August 2006), focusing on the
East Asian Newspaper situation.
The papers brought together in this highly actual book are grouped
around three themes. Not only the physical and digital preservation
of newspapers are treated, but also the service and access models
that are currently under development; examples are provided, with a
focus on Southeast Asia. Moreover the dynamism of online newspapers
is discussed. This volume contains cutting-edge information which
is indispensable for the modern newspaper librarian. Also
researchers, educators and journalists may benefit from the
introduction to current aspects of the important medium.
This volume comprises contributions of three conferences, on legal
deposit in a digital environment, on web harvesting and archiving
as well as newspapers in the geographical context of the
Mediterranean. The main focus is on how to acquire, preserve and
make available digital files. Issues that continue to be hot topics
also in a world dominated by monographs.
This volume consists of presentations at recent events of the IFLA
Newspapers Section in Oslo 2005, Canberra 2005, Buenos Aires 2004,
Shanghai 2004, Berlin 2003 and Cape Town 2003. It covers the
variety and intensity of newspaper activities worldwide,
emphasising both regional activities and current work in the fields
of the preservation and digitisation of newspapers, and including
reports on the ongoing US and UK projects. Another essential
subject covered in this volume is the very complex issue of
newspapers and copyright. This publication presents the current
state of newspaper librarianship on all five continents. It
reflects not only the remarkable progress made during recent years,
but also the major challenges for the future.
This volume offers presentations at the most recent events of the

preservation and access - in which digitization is a very important
tool.
This book contains the proceedings of a special IFLA conference
held in Berlin in August 2003. The situation of newspaper
collections was reviewed in a part of the world that has undergone
a complete change in its political and economical circumstances
during the 1990's. The papers focus on a wide array of issues
related to newspaper librarianship. They are grouped into the
following categories: acquisition policies, copyright issues for
newspaper collection management, digitization and electronic
newspapers, new technologies of paper conservation, storage and
text management. There are a total of approximately 35 short
articles: a mixture of both English and German texts. All the
German papers have been provided with English abstracts.

The present bibliography is based on the 'Bibliographic Reports'
(Bibliographische Berichte), which were the general authority on
bibliographies from 1959 to 1987. The purpose of the International
Bibliography of Bibliographies 1959-1988 is to make available the
entire records in cumulative form, presented in a consistent
classification according to subject. In all there are 82,609 titles
and 119,417 bibliographic entries. Comprehensive indexes allow
optimal access and readers from specialist fields, librarians,
archivists and information managers can all benefit from secondary
bibliographies when selecting and evaluating bibliographies.

The increasing flood of information and constantly changing carrier
media and formats have led to a growing demand for orientation aids
to help users get the information they want. Readers from
specialist fields, librarians, archivists and information managers
can all benefit from secondary bibliographies when selecting and
evaluating bibliographies.
The Bibliographic Reports (Bibliographische Berichte), basis of
the present bibliography, represented a convenient source of
selection and rating criteria for research on information.
Reviewing bibliographies from all over the world, the
Bibliographical Reports also bear witness to the fact that
information from outside the English-speaking world has increased
in importance.
"The International Bibliography of Bibliographies" will make the
complete data accessible in cumulated form: All records are
presented in a consistent classification Records for serials and
multi-volume works have been consolidated Comprehensive indexes

The period covered in the Bibliography carries on from that
covered in Theodor Besterman's "A world bibliography of
bibliographies" (4th ed., Lausanne, 1965-1966). The Bibliography
can therefore serve as a supplement to the latter, and also fills
in the gaps on recent bibliographies in electronic form.
The cumulative edition of this "International Bibliography of
Bibliographies" will make it much easier to obtain the right data
and will therefore be a welcome support to information managers and
users.
