Indigenous religions are now present not only in their places of
origin but globally. They are significant parts of the pluralism
and diversity of the contemporary world, especially when their
performance enriches and/or challenges host populations. Indigenous
Diasporas and Dislocations engages with examples of communities
with different experiences, expectations and evaluations of
diaspora life. It contributes significantly to debates about
indigenous cultures and religions, and to understandings of
identity and alterity in late or post-modernity. This book promises
to enrich understanding of indigenity, and of the globalized world
in which indigenous people play diverse roles.
This volume continues the Society's commitment to historical and
interdisciplinary research from the early and central Middle Ages,
demonstrating its belief that the close interrogation of primary
documents yield new insights or important revisions into our
understanding of the past. Volume 33 of the Haskins Society Journal
continues the Society's commitment to historical and
interdisciplinary research from the early and central Middle Ages
and demonstrates its belief that the close interrogation of primary
documents yield new insights or important revisions into our
understanding of the past. After an investigation of the role of
Anglo-Saxon bishops in the provision of coastal defense, the
subsequent articles explore different dimensions of the
Anglo-Norman period: the place of sex at the royal court, the
penitential sensibilities of Anglo-Norman prelates and their
geographical expression, the complexity of using Anglo-Norman land
surveys as evidence for the nature of and changes in peasant labor
and obligations, and the office of sheriff and its place in the
developing common law. The Denis Bethell Prize winning essay,
through its close analysis of Denis Piramus' French translation of
the Life of Edmund, king of England, explores the role of
translated texts in the formation of Anglo-Norman elite identity.
Essays on Queen Ingeborg of Denmark's conception and expression of
her role as a Capetian queen. and on the use and meaning of direct
and metaphorical references to art and artists in French sermons in
the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, round out the volume.

Co-published with AIEAInternational higher education has evolved,
in some respects dramatically, in the decade since publication of
the first edition of this handbook. The new issues, trends,
practices and priorities of research that evolved over this time
have in some instances been transformed by one of the most dynamic
and tumultuous periods in the history of international higher
education, brought on by the pandemic, a re-emergence of
nationalism, and the recognition of the power imbalances between
the developed economies and the global south, and racial inequities
within and across borders. This new edition addresses the myriad
changes across all aspects of international education, each chapter
addressing to the extent possible the reality of the present in
which they were written and offering some insights for the future.
While updating a number of chapters from the first edition, it also
includes a preponderance of new chapters written by contributors
representing wider and more diverse backgrounds. In keeping with
the first edition, the overall message is that the
internationalization of higher education has a vital role to play
in a world that is more interconnected than ever before.
Recognizing changing economic, geopolitical, climatic, and public
health issues, as well as the importance of international and
cross-cultural collaboration to address global problems, this
handbook offers a comprehensive range of models, data and ideas to
stimulate new directions in the conception and practice of
international education. This edition reflects today's concerns
around inclusion, diversity and equity, and how international
education is being changed by issues such as decolonization, the
focus on learning outcomes, the impact of digital tools to enhance
access and learning and collaboration such a virtual exchange,
competition for resources, risk, new patterns of mobility, and new
models such as joint programs and qualifications. As with the first
edition, the chapters often intentionally pair scholars and
practitioners from different parts of the world, and include text
boxes that highlight concrete institutional, national, or regional
experiences, providing diverse voices and perspectives from around
the world. This comprehensive new edition provides ideas, concepts,
theories and practical ideas from around the world for those
seeking to enhance the quality of the three core functions of
higher education: teaching, research and service to society. It
constitutes an essential resource for everyone involved in the
delivery of international education and in determining its future
direction.

How does one authentically hear and live out the gospel in North
America? This new book attempts to answer this question in a way
that reveals much about the nature of Christian faith today and its
relation to contemporary culture. In keeping with the aims of the
acclaimed Gospel and Our Culture series, StormFront investigates
how the gospel intersects American culture and seeks to reorient
the church to its full and proper missional vocation. Four authors
noted for their understanding of modern church life offer a sober
yet hopeful critique of American culture that focuses on
consumerism and the privatization of religion, and they challenge
the Christian church to embrace its corporate task to be salt and
light to the world. Amid the many books on the subject, this one is
distinctive in its concern for application. By constrasting
contemporary life with a thoroughgoing reading of the biblical
narrative, the authors help American Christians discern how our
cultural location makes it difficult to live out the transformative
message of the gospel. Few readers will fail to be engaged by the
lessons offered here. Series: The Gospel and Our Culture Series
