Jazz Calendar is a collection of jazzy piano pieces in a variety of
moods, some energetic and some relaxed. They catchy melodies are
easy to play (ranging from about grade 2 to grade 4) making them
ideal for young students who want a bit of light relief after
tackling exams or more serious classical pieces. Titles include
"Misty March Morning," "Autumn Thoughts," "Winter Frost" plus a
mellow jazzy version of "Silent Night" - just nice for Christmas
Having to play scales and arpeggios from memory can be a scary
experience, especially when you are being marked on them in an
exam, so you need to make sure that you really know them well. The
top notes need to be as secure and easy as the low notes and the
finger patterns need to be completely known. So that's where this
little book can help. It has lots of ideas for different ways in
which you can approach your practice so that, by the time you have
finished the book, you will be able to play your scales and
arpeggios fluently and easily. The book is split into chapters, one
for each scale and one for each arpeggio. The exercises in each
chapter are all slightly different, so that you don't get bored.
Even if you are already good at your scales you will improve in
agility and confidence by practising the exercises. The book covers
all of the requirements for both the ABRSM and Trinity College
Grade 1 flute exams. Please consult the current examination
syllabus to check the exact requirements.
The enjoyment that comes from the ability to play a musical
instrument must be one of the most valuable gifts that a parent can
bestow upon a child. It can also be one of the most challenging
gifts to give as it takes years of emotional and financial
investment with, quite likely, more than a few tears and tantrums
along the way (and that's just the parents ). Children and their
mentors need great staying power and a vision of what will be
possible not just next week or next term, but in many years hence.
A Parent's Guide to Music Lessons will guide you through the all of
the knotty problems and questions you might encounter if your child
is taking music lessons. With the cost of this book being very
likely less than you will be paying for 30 minutes tuition it makes
sense to invest a little now in order to get the most out of your
long term venture.
