This book draws new attention to domain-specific conceptual modeling by presenting the work of thought leaders who have designed and deployed specific modeling methods. It provides hands-on guidance on how to build models in a particular domain, such as requirements engineering, business process modeling or enterprise architecture. In addition to these results, it also puts forward ideas for future developments. All this is enriched with exercises, case studies, detailed references and further related information. All domain-specific methods described in this volume also have a tool implementation within the OMiLAB Collaborative Environment - a dedicated research and experimentation space for modeling method engineering at the University of Vienna, Austria - making these advances accessible to a wider community of further developers and users. The collection of works presented here will benefit experts and practitioners from academia and industry alike, including members of the conceptual modeling community as well as lecturers and students.

UNISCON 2009 (United Information Systems Conference) was the third conf- ence in the series that is based on the idea to pool smaller but highly interesting scienti?c events on information systems into one large conference. Here, people from di?erent scienti?c backgrounds can present their research results, share their ideas and discuss future trends in these various areas. UNISCON 2009 was held in Sydney, Australia in the University of Western Sydney, Campbelltown Campus. In 2009 the following scienti?c events were held under the umbrella of UNISCON 2009: th - 8 International Conference on Information Systems Technology and Its Applications (ISTA 2009) th - 8 International Workshop on Conceptual Modelling Approaches for e- Business (eCOMO 2009) - Second Workshop on Model-Based Software and Data Integration (MBSDI 2009) We received 115 papers for the three events. Papers were submitted from over 25 countries. After a rigorous review process, 39 papers were accepted as full papers and 14 papers as short papers for presentation at the conference and published in these proceedings. In addition to the above three events, we also organized a Doctoral Cons- tium to provide a forum for doctoral students to get feedback from experts in the area about their research projects.

Conceptual modeling is fundamental to any domain where one must cope with complex real-world situations and systems because it fosters communication - tween technology experts and those who would bene?t from the application of those technologies. Conceptual modeling is the key mechanism for und- standing and representing the domains of information system and database - gineering but also increasingly for other domains including the new "virtual" e-environmentsandtheinformationsystemsthatsupportthem.Theimportance of conceptual modeling in software engineering is evidenced by recent interest in "model-drivenarchitecture"and"extremenon-programming".Conceptualm- eling also plays a prominent rolein various technical disciplines and in the social sciences. The Annual International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (referred to as the ER Conference) provides a central forum for presenting and discussing current research and applications in which conceptual modeling is the major emphasis. In keeping with this tradition, ER 2005, the 24th ER Conference, spanned the spectrum of conceptual modeling including research and practice in areas such as theories of concepts and ontologies underlying conceptual m- eling, methods and tools for developing and communicating conceptual models, and techniques for transforming conceptual models into e?ective (information) system implementations. Moreover, new areas of conceptual modeling incl- ing Semantic Web services and the interdependencies of conceptual modeling with knowledge-based, logical and linguistic theories and approaches were also addressed.
We would like to welcome you to the proceedings of the workshops held in conjunction with the 23rd International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER 2004). The objective of the workshops associated with ER 2004 was to give p- ticipants the opportunity to present and discuss emerging hot topics related to conceptual modeling, thereby adding new perspectives to conceptual mod- ing. To meet the objective, we selected six workshops with topics on conceptual modelingforWebinformationintegration, digitalgovernment, GIS, changem- agement, e-business, and agent technology. Some of these workshopswere brand new while others had been held in conjunction with ER conferences as many as ?ve times. They are: 1. 1stInternationalWorkshoponConceptualModel-DirectedWebInformation Integration and Mining (CoMWIM 2004) 2. 1st International Workshop on Digital Government: Systems and Techno- gies (DGOV 2004) 3. 1st International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling for GIS (CoMoGIS 2004) 4. 3rd International Workshop on Evolution and Change in Data Management (ECDM 2004) 5. 1st International Workshop on Conceptual Modelling for Agents (CoMoA 2004) 6. 5th International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling Approaches for E-Business (The Model-Driven Design Value Proposition) (eCOMO 2004) These six workshops received 38, 16, 58, 21, 17, and 13 papers, respectively. Following the philosophy of the ER workshops, the selection of contributions was very carefully carried out in order to keep the excellent standard; 13, 6, 16, 8, 7, and 6 papers were accepted by the six workshops, respectively, with acceptance rates 34%, 37%, 27%, 38%, 41%, and 46%, respective
