This book brings together the expertise of economists, legal
scholars, political scientists, and sociologists in order to
integrate diverse perspectives and a broad range of analytical
tools in the conceptualisation of labour mobility. It examines how
variably the question of labour mobility has translated into the
policies, laws, and norms through which the EU as a whole is
governed. The contributions focus on the actors - European and
national officials, experts, trade union and employers'
organisations - and on instruments implemented by institutions and
political organisations - European Agency, coordination systems,
European Job Mobility Portal (EURES) - to increase and support
mobility within the European Union. This book will be of key
interest to scholars and students of European/EU studies, migration
studies, labour studies, political sociology, and more broadly to
comparative politics.
In the context of a growing criticism on the influence of the
pharmaceutical industry on physicians, scientists, or politicians,
Conflict of Interest and Medicine offers a comprehensive analysis
of the conflict of interest in medicine anchored in the social
sciences, with perspectives from sociology, history, political
science, and law. Based on in-depth empirical investigations
conducted within different territories (France, the European Union,
and the United States) the contributions analyze the development of
conflict of interest as a social issue and how it impacts the
production of medical knowledge and expertise, physicians' work and
their prescriptions, and also the framing of health crises and
controversies. In doing so, they bring a new understanding of the
transformations in the political economy of pharmaceutical
knowledge, the politicization of public health risks, and the
promotion of transparency in science and public life. Complementing
the more normative and quantitative understandings of conflict of
interest issues that dominate today, this book will be of interest
to researchers in a broad range of areas including social studies
of sciences and technology, sociology of health and illness, and
political sociology and ethics. It will be also a valuable resource
for health professionals, medical scientists, or regulators facing
the question of corporate influence.
The world is in a big, fucking mess and I'm writing snotty haiku
about it: a mini-guide to everything that's wrong. Unemployment,
the economy, employment, corporations, bad bosses, inequality, crap
jobs, culture, foreign policy, revolution, the environment, Wall
Street, animal rights, the 1 percent...you name it, I skewer it.
An inspiring and insightful guide to solving your problems or
changing your life by using the creative powers you already have,
the Power of Self. The key to unlocking your creative power is to
know the self, including its origin and components. Achieving
Self-mastery has been an enigmatic quest for humankind for eons.
Yet, a few masters have solved the riddle and completed the path to
enlightenment. The Power of Self outlines the secrets and
principles that these masters have taught about the human mind. The
author guides and inspires, making it easy to see how to unlock the
infinite potential of your real Self. He also gives practical
advice about how this time-honored wisdom can be applied to daily
life. The spiritual masters offer a path of self-mastery, whereby
we can gradually attain control over our reactions to the
situations we encounter in the material world. Instead of going
through life in an unaware way, we can purify the mind from all
limitations until we can meet life with a higher form of awareness.
The Path to Self-mastery is a process, whereby we gradually cleanse
the mind from all of the limited ideas, beliefs, paradigms and
assumptions that spring from the material world. We gradually throw
out what colors our perception, and one day we will see the light
entering the mind without having it colored at all. The real key to
unlocking the power of self is not to find some kind of magical
formula that forces the light. The key is to empty your mind of the
elements in the human kaleidoscope that block the flow of light
from your higher Self. This book gives you both the knowledge and
the practical tools to master the Self.
Snappy little humorous snippets about and by animals. Okay...to be
honest...more than a few frustrated observations by this same
animal lover. Yes, indeed, there is a pile of parental advice to
these dogs and cats--which the creatures completely ignore. Then,
of course, the cats and dogs must butt in with their own opinions,
also spoken in haiku style. All delightfully decorated with animal
art by Roxanna Groves. This version has black & white
illustrations.
SnarkyKu is a collection of senryu (haiku-style poems) providing
snarky commentary for every occasion. Called by reviewers "wasabi
for the soul," it has a 5-star rating in the digital version.
Feeling like snapping someone's head off? Do it with wit: quote a
