Recent insight into the transcripts generated from the mammalian
genome (i.e. the transcriptome) has revealed that transcription is
a far more complex phenomenon than previously thought. In RNA:
Methods and Protocols, expert researchers provide the procedures
and methods used to describe the structure of messenger RNAs and
non-coding RNAs that are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as the
immediate gene products in mammalian cells. Focused on the
structure of the RNA products of "gene X" and the mapping of
proteins associated with these RNAs, the volume presents
appropriate information for non-specialists in RNA biology. Written
in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology (TM) series
format, many chapters contain introductions to their respective
topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents,
step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and key
tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Comprehensive
and practical, RNA: Methods and Protocols views the transcriptional
landscape with an appreciation for the role that proteins play in
the processing and interpretation of genetic information in an
attempt to further our crucial knowledge of the many products and
sophisticated regulatory networks that result from it.
Even in well-established democratic societies, the political system
currently faces a crisis of civic engagement and participation.
Increasingly, this lack of engagement and the accompanying erosion
of institutional legitimacy result in antidemocratic, populist
currents gaining ground. It is an important challenge for both the
humanities and the social sciences to analyse this crisis and
discuss possible answers that may contribute to strengthening the
position of the democratic public sphere in the political process,
thus emphasising the crucial role of civic engagement and
participation in renewing democracy. The articles in this volume
seek the sources for such democratic innovations in a variety of
existing, less formalised practices and experiences in public
space: in citizens' forums and other concrete arenas for democratic
debate and participation in the media in general, including social
media and other digital platforms; in social movements; and in
artistic interventions in the public sphere. The volume presents
selected and edited papers and keynote lectures from the
international research conference The Democratic Public Sphere -
Current Challenges and Prospects, which was held at Aarhus
University on November 5-7, 2015. It includes contributions by
keynote speakers Mark E. Warren, Nick Couldry, Donatella della
Porta, and Stephen Duncombe.

This volume is co-edited by the director of the Freiburg graduate
school "Factual and Fictional Narration" (GRK 1767,
Freiburg/Germany) and the director of the Aarhus Centre for
Fictionality Studies (University of Aarhus, DK). The collection of
essays re-examines the much discussed fact fiction distinction in
light of the current burgeoning of research on fictionality. It
provides a forum for ongoing work on fictionality from France,
Germany and Denmark and Sweden. By placing discussions of the
notion of fictionality in one volume, the editors hope to initiate
exchange between the different traditions represented in the essays
und to help the task of translating the available concepts and
terminologies so they can travel between different models and
theoretical frameworks.
