Originally published in 1895. This early works is a fascinating and
informative look at early chemistry with much of the information
still useful and practical today. Many of the earliest books,
particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now
extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing
these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions,
using the original text and artwork.
Sir Henry E. Roscoe (1833-1915) is one of the foremost of English
chemists. In Heidelberg he worked under Robert Bunsen and together
with the famous German he laid the foundations of comparative
photochemistry. Roscoe is also known for his study and analysis of
vanadium compounds and his isolation of the metal. In 1857 he
became professor at Owens College, Manchester, where he remained
for thirty years. "Lectures on Spectrum Analysis" is one of
Roscoe's standard works.
