Die Schlagschatten des grossen Krieges werden nicht spurlos an der deutschen Industrie vorubergehen; so manches wirtschaft liche Problem wird seine Losung verlangen. Arbeiter-, Betriebs- und Verwaltungsfragen werden sicherlich Brennpunkte bilden, und die vorliegende Schrift, die sich auf den Grundideen der "Wissenschaftlichen Betriebsfuhrung" aufbaut, darf wohl mit Recht darauf Anspruch machen, manche interessante Anregung auf dem Gebiete der Fabrikverwaltung zu bringen. Die Ubersetzung folgt im allgemeinen dem amerikanischen Urtexte. Die erlauternden Anmerkungen und Literaturangaben schienen am Platze, um zum weiteren Studium dieser neuen Richtung der Betriebs-und Geschaftsfuhrung anzuregen und die Auswahl einschlagiger Werke zu erleichtern." 1 In den 5 / Jahren, seit Fertigstellung dieser Arbeit, hat sich vieles 2 verandert; die Ereignisse zwingen zu einer vertieften Anwendung der in dieser Schrift behandelten Grundsatze. Nach dem Zusammenbruch bedarf die deutsche Industrie in verstarktem Masse einer straffen inneren Organisation, um sich aus dem Abgrund, in den sie gesturzt ist, herauszuarbeiten. Ostwaids energetischer Imperativ: "Vergeude keine Energie, verwerte sie," durchklingt die vorliegende Schrift, die ich der Offentlichkeit mit der Hoffnung ubergebe, dass dieser Grundton auch das deutsche Wirtschaftsleben durchklingen wird.
