Die Aufgabe dieses Buches ist ein Kursus der Tierphysiologie,
dargestellt an sechs der am besten bekannten Gebiete. Der Kursus
soIl zunachst die Moglichkeit geben, mit einer groBeren Anzahl von
Kursusteilnehmern gleichzeitig eine Reihe von Versuchen
auszufUhren. Hierbei kann es sich nicht um eingehende
Untersuchungen handeln, da es nicht moglich ist, in einem Bolchen
Kursus wirklich exakt zu arbeiten. Der erstgenannte Verfasser halt
seit dem Jahre 1909 jedes Jahr einen derartigen Kursus der
Tierphysiologie fUr Studenten der Biologie. Es war sein Wunsch, in
den folgenden Blattern das Material, welches hierbei verarbeitet
wird, ziemlich unverandert wiederzugeben. Er hofft, daB der
subjektive Charakter dieses Buches mehr Vorteile als Nachteile
haben wird. Der Hauptnachteil dieses Verfahrens ist der, daB die
Auswahl der behandelten Kapitel nicht vollstandig ist; man wird
zahlreiche Versuche dem hier Mitgeteilten hinzufiigen konnen; aber
wir haben uns beschrankt auf Versuche, durch welche die geistige
Methode der Vergleichenden Physiologie vor allem gelernt werden
kann und die bei l)ns erprobt waren. Der Hauptvorteil dieser
subjektiven Art, Arbeitsmethoden mitzuteilen, ist der, daB wir fiir
die Brauchbarkeit der Methoden einstehen konnen, zumal wir hier
linter Brauchbarkeit auch verstehen, daB die Arbeiten in kurzer
Zeit, mit wenig Kosten und ohne allzuviel tTbung des betreffenden
Studieren den ausgefiihrt werden konnen. Und schlieBlich ist ein
Vorteil, daB auch in der Reihenfolge und dem Aufbau dieser Kursus
ein erarbeitetes Ganzes darstellt."
