The Equation of Knowledge: From Bayes' Rule to a Unified Philosophy
of Science introduces readers to the Bayesian approach to science:
teasing out the link between probability and knowledge. The author
strives to make this book accessible to a very broad audience,
suitable for professionals, students, and academics, as well as the
enthusiastic amateur scientist/mathematician. This book also shows
how Bayesianism sheds new light on nearly all areas of knowledge,
from philosophy to mathematics, science and engineering, but also
law, politics and everyday decision-making. Bayesian thinking is an
important topic for research, which has seen dramatic progress in
the recent years, and has a significant role to play in the
understanding and development of AI and Machine Learning, among
many other things. This book seeks to act as a tool for
proselytising the benefits and limits of Bayesianism to a wider
public. Features Presents the Bayesian approach as a unifying
scientific method for a wide range of topics Suitable for a broad
audience, including professionals, students, and academics Provides
a more accessible, philosophical introduction to the subject that

efficiency, theoretical convergence and security, viewed from
different perspectives. Part II features emerging challenges
stemming from many socially driven concerns of federated learning
as a future public machine learning service. To bridge the gap
between academic and industrial research Part III presents a wide
array of industrial applications of federated learning. Part IV
concludes the book with several chapters highlighting potential
venues and visions for federated learning in the near
future.Federated Learning: Theory and Practice provides a

There is a considerable gap between the science of conservation
biology and the design and execution of biodiversity conservation
projects in the field. Science is often failing to inform the
practice of conservation, which remains largely experience-based.
The main reason is the poor accessibility of evidence on the
effectiveness of different interventions. This is the basis for
this book adopting an 'evidence-based approach', modelled on the
systematic reviews used in health sciences and now being applied to
many policy arenas. Evidence-based Conservation brings together a
series of case studies, written by field practitioners, that
provides the evidence-base for evaluating how effective
conservation and poverty alleviation strategies can be better
implemented. A series of systematic reviews uses experiences and
data from fifteen integrated conservation and development projects
conducted in the Lower Mekong region, specifically in Vietnam, Laos
and Cambodia. They provide wide-ranging overviews of the
effectiveness of protected areas and how innovative tools and
methods for monitoring and evaluation can be utilised for more
effective outcomes. Results are in the form of management and
policy recommendations, based on the quality of evidence and the
cost-utility of the intervention. By bridging the gap between field
practice and conservation, the analysis should lead to more
effective integrated conservation and development interventions.
The book represents one of the first attempts to apply the
evidence-based approach to conservation and development.

This book provides detailed analysis of Supreme Court judgments
which have impacted the rights of minorities in relation to higher
education, and so illustrates ongoing issues of racial
discrimination throughout the American education sector. Race, Law,
and Higher Education in the Colorblind Era brings together the many
racial disputes that have been adjudicated by the Supreme Court to
investigate the politics of colorblindness in the post-civil rights
era. Through a reading of these various cases as a form of
continuing racial discourse, this book focuses on the ways in which
racial disputes operate within a clearly entwined colorblind
narrative that invalidates racial justice for minorities. By
investigating how the Supreme Court has understood racism and the
concept of race across its history, this volume demonstrates how
colleges and universities must navigate the often contradictory and
perilous landscape of 'diversity' in attempts to integrate
historically disadvantaged minorities. This book will be of
interest to researchers, academics, and postgraduate students in
the fields of sociology of education, multicultural education, and
legal education.
Christianity Today Book Award Winner Justice requires
perseverance--a deep perseverance we can't muster on our own. The
world's needs are staggering and even the most passion-driven
reactions, strategies, and good intentions can falter. But we serve
a God who never falters, who sees the needs, hears the cries, and
gives strength--through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit--to his
people. Offering a comprehensive biblical theology of justice drawn
from the whole story of Scripture, this book invites us to know
more intimately the God who loves justice and calls us to give our
lives to seek the flourishing of others. The authors explore
stories of injustice around the globe today and spur Christians to
root their passion for justice in the persevering hope of Christ.
They also offer practices that can further form us into people who
join God's work of setting things right in the world. Now in paper
with an added reader's guide.
