Classic creature comedy horror directed by Joe Dante and produced
by Steven Spielberg. When Billy Peltzer (Zach Gilligan) is given
the cute and friendly little Mogwai, Gizmo (voiced by Howie
Mandel), for Christmas, he is told never to expose it to bright
light, get it wet or ever feed it after midnight. But one night
when a glass of water is accidentally spilled over little Gizmo,
Billy soon finds out why he was told to follow this advice as Gizmo
begins to convulse, producing five new Mogwai. As Billy and his
science teacher, Mr. Hanson (Glynn Turman), then seek to find out
more about the creatures, a series of events lead to the escape of
a number of them; and due to their heightened intelligence they
know exactly how to replicate themselves. Soon after, the town is
overrun by a new breed of Mogwai - the 'Gremlins' - who are
menacing little reptilian creatures, and far from friendly.

This book examines the origins of Ireland in its first independent
incarnation, the Irish Free State (1922-1937). It explores how
contemporary public relations and propaganda techniques were used
to construct an identity for this new state - a state which after
enduring seven years of insurrection and civil war, became one of
the most stable democracies in Europe. This stability, the book
argues, was constructed not solely through policies enacted by
governments, but through the construction of a Gaelic, Catholic and
Celtic national identity. By shifting the perspective to how nation
building was communicated, it weaves an interdisciplinary narrative
that initiates a new understanding of nation building - providing
insights of increasing relevance in current world events. Avoiding
a simplistic cause and effect history of public relations, the book
examines the uses and effects of early public relations from a
political and societal perspective and suggests that while
governments were only modestly successful in their varied
propaganda efforts, cumulatively they facilitated a transition from
violence to peace. This will be of interest to researchers and
advanced students with an interest in public relations, propaganda
studies, nation building and Irish studies.

During the coldest season, when the world feels scary--what do you
remember about being warm? Baked potatoes. Trust. A kettle on the
stove. Blankets. A smile. And, most of all, the reassurance that
you belong. In his powerful and moving poem, featuring
illustrations from thirteen extraordinary artists, bestselling
author and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Neil Gaiman draws together
many different memories to answer the question, what do you need to
be warm?
Tom and Mot are best friends. On their birthday, Tom gives Mot a
feather – but could it be a feather from the most spectacular
bird in the world? Mot gives Tom a marble – or is it the smallest
planet in the universe? Tom would like to give a whale, a dolphin,
a sea monster, an elephant, while Mot would give rivers, mountains,
forests and even the sun! But after a joyful day playing together,
what is the best present of all? This beautiful story of
imagination and friendship is perfect for sharing.
Fonologia do Português e Interfaces: Fenômenos da Aquisição e
da Variação brings together a collection of studies on
phonological acquisition and phonological variation in European and
Brazilian Portuguese, addressing topics and proposing analyzes that
are little studied in linguistic research in the target language.
The eleven chapters foster theoretical debates on the processes
underlying both phonological acquisition and variation and show how
these are interrelated. They focus on the acquisition of phonology
by children as well as adult variation in the use of phonological
units in everyday speech, highlighting linguistic processes that
occur in both contexts. The volume combines theory and practices
with a focus on language teaching and acquisition. The book will be
of interest to Lusophony linguists, particularly those interested
in phonological acquisition and variation, and should prove useful
to linguistic researchers, practitioners, and students of
Portuguese in Europe, Latin America, and the US. Fonologia do

In this hilarious tale of blame, compassion, and forgiveness, a
very embarrassed bear is reminded that accidents can happen--but
with the support of good friends, life goes on. Reuben the bear's
got donuts for everyone in his scout troop but his friends are all
staring at something else: there's a wet spot on Reuben's pants and
it's in a specific area. "WHO WET MY PANTS?" he shouts, and a blame
game starts. His buddies try to reassure him there was no crime.
Just an accident. It could happen to anyone! But as all the clues
begin to point in Reuben's own direction as the culprit, Reuben
must come to terms with the truth. Who Wet My Pants? isn't a
potty-training book. It's a witty and wise story about
embarrassment and anger, empathy and acceptance and
ultimately...forgiveness.
This book treats ensembles of Young diagrams originating from
group-theoretical contexts and investigates what statistical
properties are observed there in a large-scale limit. The focus is
mainly on analyzing the interesting phenomenon that specific curves
appear in the appropriate scaling limit for the profiles of Young
diagrams. This problem is regarded as an important origin of recent
vital studies on harmonic analysis of huge symmetry structures. As
mathematics, an asymptotic theory of representations is developed
of the symmetric groups of degree n as n goes to infinity. The
framework of rigorous limit theorems (especially the law of large
numbers) in probability theory is employed as well as combinatorial
analysis of group characters of symmetric groups and applications
of Voiculescu's free probability. The central destination here is a
clear description of the asymptotic behavior of rescaled profiles
of Young diagrams in the Plancherel ensemble from both static and
dynamic points of view.
"New physics" is an appealing new keyword, not yet devalued by the
ravages of inflation. But what has this to do with such an ugly
field as plasma physics, steeped in classical physics, mostly
outworn, with all its unsolved and ambiguous technological problems
and its messy and open ended numerical studies? "New physics" is
concerned with quarks, Higgs particles, grand unified theory, super
strings, gravitational waves, and the profound basics of cosmology
and black holes. It is the field of astonishing quantum effects,
demonstrated by the von Klitzing effect and high temperature
superconductors. But what can plasma physicists offer, after so
many years of expensive and frustrating research to solve the
problem of fusion energy? One may suggest that the fascinating
research ofchaos with applications to plasma, or the achievements
of statistical mechanics applied to plasmas, has something to offer
and should be the subject of attention. However, this is not the
aim of this book. Complementing the traditional aim of physics,
which is to interpret the phenomena of nature by generalizing laws
such that exact predictions about new properties and effects can be
drawn, this book demonstrates how new physics has been derived over
the last 30 years from the state of matter which exists at high
temperatures (plasma).
