This supplemental volume expands upon the seven-volume edition of Constitutional Documents of the United States of America 1776 1860, which was published from 2006 to 2009. It contains 14 constitutional documents from 8 different U.S. states which were recently made accessible for the first time in American libraries and archives. Among the documents in the collection are the constitution of the short-lived Republic of Indian Stream, which succeeded from New Hampshire from 1832 to 1835, as well as rare constitutional documents from New Mexico and Texas written in both Spanish and English. The texts have been edited, annotated, and indexed on the basis of the original manuscripts and (in certain cases rare) original prints produced by the official state or constitutional convention printing presses."
The seven-volume edition contains about 500 constitutional texts, constitutional amendments, failed constitutions and draft constitutions from the United States, all in their original languages and alphabetically ordered. The texts, including some rare original versions, have been edited and annotated on the basis of the printed official state documents and conventions, consulting the original manuscripts. The constitutional documents from South Carolina to Texas are published in volume VI and the constitutional documents from Vermont to Wisconsin are published in volume VII.
This volume includes31 constitutions, constitutional drafts and amendments illustrating the checkered political history of Spain in the first half of the 19th century. It begins with the "Estatuto de Bayona" (Bayonne Statute) imposed by the French in 1808 and continues with the"Constitucion politica de la Monarquia Espanola" (Political Constitution of the Spanish Monarchy), the first independent constitution of Spain, which was drawn up in Cadiz in 1812. Subsequently, it also includes the "Constitucion de la Monarquia Espanola" (Constitution of the Spanish Monarchy) of 1845.Nine constitutional documents from Portugal between 1808 and 1838 round off the Constitutional Documents of Portugal and Spain 1808 1845."
Volume 11 of the European part of the Constitutions of the World deals with French constitutional history of the 18th to mid-19th century: a topic of great significance for European constitutionalism. Its range stretches from the revolutionary Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (DA(c)claration des droits de l'homme et du citoyen, 1789), the Constitution of the French Republic and French Directory (Constitution de l'an I, III; 1791, 1793) up to the restorative Charte Constitutionelle of 1814 and the liberal constitutions of 1830 and 1848.
The six volumes of the German Constitutional Documents encompass more than 100 texts from Napoleonic times to the St. Paul's Church Constitution of 1849. They are published as part of the series entitled Constitutions of the World from the late 18th Century to the Middle of the 19th Century, a unique source edition that includes a complete collection of authentic historical constitutional texts for the period in question, all of which are annotated and indexed. Volume VI contains constitutional documents for individual German states arranged in alphabetical and chronological order, Saxe-Meinignen to Wurttemberg.
With the volume Constitutional Documents of Italy and Malta 1787a "1850, the collected and annotated Italian constitutional documents of this epoch are now available for the first time. This publication contains over 150 Italian constitutional documents, beginning with the pre-revolutionary constitutional projects of Tuscany (Pietro Leopoldo Stati, 1787) and ending with the draft constitutions for the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venice (Statuto Costituzionale del Regno Lombardo-Veneto, 1850), published here for the first time. The first of two part-volumes contains the national constitutions and, in alphabetical order, the regional constitutions from Ancona to Lucca.
