Niall Horan’s third album The Show sees the singer/songwriter match the pure emotion of his globally beloved past work with a powerful new element of soul-searching reflection. Built on a lush and radiant form of alt-pop, the album draws much of its mesmerizing power from his use of harmonies – an element inspired by Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne and other members of the ’60s/’70s music scene in Laurel Canyon. Niall enters a new era of his career, this a body of work born of his longtime mission of bringing solace and connection to his globe-spanning community of passionately devoted fans. Welcome to The Show.
Recent events have revealed that many healthcare workers are
subject to very high levels of occupational stress. This has become
particularly salient during the COVID-19 crisis. Recent research
indicates that, due to a variety of occupational stressors,
healthcare workers are at risk for a variety of mental and physical
ailments. Unfortunately, the literature on this topic is widely
dispersed among a number of fields, from psychology to medicine to
other professions. This book assembles the state-of-the-art
research from these various fields into one volume that will allow
clinicians, researchers, educators and administrators to understand
the extent of specific risks, their prevention, and treatment. It
draws attention to the emerging issue of stress-related illness in
healthcare and multiple individual topics within this domain. This
book is of interest to researchers and practitioners in clinical
psychology, organizational psychology, and occupational health.
Also, to the healthcare workers themselves that might be looking
for ideas about how to manage stress for themselves or their
coworkers. Finally, this book will be of interest to health
administrators seeking to reduce negative outcomes in their
employees.
Novelist and nature writer Richard Horan embarked on an
adventure across America to reveal that farming is still the
vibrant beating heart of our nation. Horan went from coast to
coast, visiting organic family farms and working the harvests of
more than a dozen essential or unusual food crops--from Kansas
wheat and Michigan wild rice to Maine potatoes, California walnuts,
and Cape Cod cranberries--in search of connections with the
farmers, the soil, the seasons, and the lifeblood of America.
Sparkling with lively prose and a winning blend of profound
seriousness and delightful humor, Harvest carries the reader on an
eyeopening and transformational journey across the length and
breadth of this remarkable land, offering a powerful national
portrait of challenge and diligence, and an inspiring message of
hope.
What do you stand for ? What is the foundation of your leadership
approach ? And what's really important to you ? Many leaders know
the answers to these questions, but few have expressed themselves
in writing on these important leadership underpinnings. The Keys to
Leading provides leaders the opportunity to take their thinking to
a deeper level. Organized around ten time-honored principles
essential to effective, ethical leadership, this journal introduces
these keys in a week-to-week format. By quoting respected exemplars
and posing important questions each day, leaders are asked to
express their thoughts on integrity, commitment, purpose and other
fundamental leadership principles. The exercise of writing one's
deepest thoughts can be clarifying, therapeutic and often
eye-opening. This book is about both what other great leaders have
said, and more importantly, it's about what you have to say ! How
you respond to this journal can be a transformative experience !

What do you stand for? What is the foundation of your leadership
approach? And what's really important to you? Many leaders know the
answers to these questions at an intellectual level, but
interestingly, they don't talk about them very often, and most have
never expressed themselves in writing on these important leadership
underpinnings. The Leaders Journal provides leaders the opportunity
to take their thinking to a deeper level. Organized around twelve
time-honored principles essential to effective, ethical leadership,
this book introduces these keys in a week-to-week format. By
quoting respected exemplars and posing important questions each
day, you are asked to express your thoughts on integrity,
commitment, purpose and other fundamental leadership principles.
The exercise of writing your deepest thoughts can be clarifying,
therapeutic and often eye-opening. Writing can help you think
through ideas or problems where answers may not be readily
apparent. The more diligent you are in journaling, the more you'll
learn about yourself and about your capacity to lead others. In
this sense, this book is interactive and engaging. It's about both
what other great leaders have said, and more importantly, it's
about what you have to say Just be aware that what you record in
this journal may be transformative
Telemetering systems and applications have moved far beyond the space flight telemetry most people have heard of to cutting-edge uses across a broad range of disciplines, including industry, medicine, and meteorology. To fully understand and participate in the acquisition of data this technology makes possible, scientists in these fields along with engineers new to telemetering require some background in the concepts, hardware, and software that makes the technology so valuable.
Introduction to PCM Telemetering Systems, Second Edition summarizes the techniques and terminology used in sending data and control information between users and the instruments that collect and process the data. It gives an overall systems introduction to the relevant topics in three primary areas: system interfaces; data transport, timing, and synchronization; and data transmission techniques. The topics addressed include sensor characteristics, user interface design, data filtering, data framing, statistical analysis, telemetry standards, time code standards, modulation techniques, and radio propagation. To reinforce understanding, each chapter includes exercises.
Rather than focusing on design specifics, which can change so rapidly with evolving technologies, the author centers his discussions on concepts and standards. This edition incorporates the latest standards, LabVIEW-based examples of telemetry and command processing, and simulations using multiSim and Commsim.
This study shows that women involved in National Socialism in the
years 1924 - 1934 developed and shaped a recognizable discourse
which communicated and reflected their position and status within
the NS movement. The analysis is based on a variety of text-types
produced by members of NS women's organisations, and includes
official correspondence, circulars, reports, pamphlets, monographs
and articles from NS women's journals. It draws upon several areas
of linguistic theory, including feminist linguistics, semantics,
pragmatics and discourse analysis, and the salient features
identified in the female discourse are placed within a
sociolinguistic framework. While previous research into the
language of the NS-system has largely ignored the possibility of a
cohesive female discourse, the study supports the idea that this
discourse was dynamic, and at times heterogeneous, whilst also
displaying many self-defining and self-referential features. It is
characterised by its ambiguities and apparent contradictions, which
expresses separateness and difference, yet also solidarity with the
NSDAP.
U.S.S. Seawolf: Submarine Raider of the Pacific is the famous
first-hand account of the legendary U.S. Navy submarine Seawolf
a.k.a. the Wolf which patrolled the Pacific during the conflict
with Japan in World War 2. Shoving off the day of Pearl Harbor,
Chief Radioman J. (Joseph) M. (Melvin) Eckberg gives the reader a
tense and detailed account of his initial 24-month stint aboard the
Seawolf and beyond.
With expert evidence used more and more often in criminal jury
cases, evaluation of its admissibility and presentation is being
increasingly thrust into the spotlight. However, jury room secrecy
has long prevented a rigorous analysis of its complexities. Expert
Evidence and Criminal Jury Trials draws on an unprecedented study
carried out in Commonwealth jurisdictions which have recently
granted access to jurors, offering a unique exploration of the
presentation and comprehension of expert evidence in criminal jury
trials and a critical perspective on parallel UK processes. The
authors combine empirical research conducted in the courtroom with
expert academic analysis, examining, analysing, and comparing the
views of not only real jurors, but also courtroom lawyers, judges,
and experts across over 50 trials to gauge how complex and
sometimes conflicting expert evidence is perceived and understood
by all parties. Examples of modern technologies used in expert
evidence, including DNA analysis and facial and body-mapping, are
considered, and discussion of the challenges they pose covers not
only issues of procedure and approach, but also perceptual issues
and those of cognitive evaluation. This innovative study aims to
facilitate a broader understanding of the use of expert evidence,
what problems exist with it, and how such problems influence the
communication of information to jurors. While the survey that
informs the book relates to criminal trials in three Australian
jurisdictions, the legal and psychological issues explored
transcend national boundaries, allowing this book to fill a gap in
the market for a practical discussion of expert evidence and its
use that will be relevant to practitioners in any jurisdiction
which utilises an adversarial trial system or juries in criminal
trials.
Reports of paranormal experiences vary tremendously, but are often
associated with ghosts, haunted houses, and otherwise eerie
circumstances. There exist both classic and modern texts on ghosts
and haunted or possessed people, places and spaces; many discuss
traditional ideas regarding such phenomena or utilize now-outdated
research in highly academic and technical ways. This book offers a
very different approach in reviews provided by a leading-edge
research program devoted to who has ghostly experiences and why.
With new insights both global in scale and multidisciplinary in
scope, this collaboration by five researchers uncovers consistent
evidence that anomalous experiences represent a very real "Haunted
People Syndrome"-a term describing anomalous experiences that
manifest recurrently to the same percipients and are interpreted as
"ghostly"-with implications for future research across academia.
The participation of new citizen scientists (the field
investigators and researchers among us) is invited in furthering
the exploration of paranormal mysteries. Photos and figures
illustrating concepts and models are included, as is a glossary.
Despite being centuries old, Shakespeare's plays have not yet
ceased to be in the spotlight of literature. This text critically
explores the famous supernatural elements found within
Shakespeare's plays--specifically in regard to the writer's
histories, such as Henry VI, Richard II, Richard III, King John,
Henry IV, Henry V and Henry VIII. These elements include the
presence of divine order and occult prophecy, as well as how
characters' free will entangles them with cosmic forces, causing
them to trip into the supernatural. This book stands as a testament
to the possibility that, even in stories as well documented as
Shakespeare, there are still hidden themes that have yet to be
rooted out.
This book assesses key works of twentieth-century dystopian
fiction, including Katharine Burdekin's Swastika Night, George
Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, and Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's
Tale, to demonstrate that the major authors of this genre locate
empathy and morality in eroticism. Taken together, these books
delineate a subset of politically conscious speculative literature,
which can be understood collectively as projected political
fiction. While Thomas Horan addresses problematic aspects of this
subgenre, particularly sexist and racist stereotypes, he also
highlights how some of these texts locate social responsibility in
queer and other non-heteronormative sexual relationships. In these
novels, even when the illicit relationship itself is truncated,
sexual desire fosters hope and community.
