The fourth outing in the popular espionage action thriller
franchise based on the Jason Bourne novels by Robert Ludlum.
Written and directed by Tony Gilroy, who scripted the first three
films, the film moves away from the central Bourne character
(played in the opening trilogy by Matt Damon) to focus on a new
protagonist, CIA operative Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner). The film,
which takes up events where 'The Bourne Ultimatum' left off, sees
Cross making the vow to give himself over completely to 'the
operation', and quickly proving himself to be the shining star in a
new generation of deadly undercover assassins. Rachel Weisz and
Edward Norton co-star, while pivotal roles from the previous films
are reprised by Joan Allen, David Strathairn, Albert Finney and
Scott Glenn.

"Spirits in Culture, History and Mind" reintegrates spirits into
comparative theories of religion, which have tended to focus on
institutionalized forms of belief associated with gods. It brings
an historical perspective to culturally patterned experiences with
spirits, and examines spirits as a locus of tension between
traditional and foreign values. Taking as a point of departure
shifting local views of self, nine case studies drawn from Pacific
societies analyze religious phenomena at the intersection of
social, psychological and historical processes. The varied
approaches taken in these case studies provide a richness of
perspective, with each lens illuminating different aspects of
spirit-related experience. All, however, bring a sense of
historical process to bear on psychological and symbolic approaches
to religion, shedding new light on the ways spirits relate to other
cultural phenomena.
Included is a provocative theoretical chapter, co-authored by
Robert Levy and the editors. Unabashedly comparative at a time when
most anthropologists confine themselves to interpreting local
meanings, this chapter argues for a distinction between god-like
and spirit-like beings, with gods representing the moral order
while spirits are countered at its periphery. Issues associated
with morality, power, control, conformity, possession, selfhood,
the uncanny, and the impingement of high religions on folk beliefs,
among others, are addressed in this chapter.
The conclusion, by Michael Lambek, also excites controversy.
Reflecting on the ethnographic material included in the volume,
Lambek draws attention to the importance of understanding
spirit-related experiences, in their historicalcontexts, for coming
to grips with the very nature of religion.

of her enemy's successor. Over time, however, Aurora (Fanning)

the princess may be the only one who can bring peace back to the
kingdom. The film also stars Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple, Brenton

Alcohol misuse presents a major risk for health and well-being
throughout the life-span, but youth have a special vulnerability.
Alcohol is the most widely used drug by adolescents. For some, this
may be one or two isolated occasions of youthful experimentation;
for others, the use becomes excessive, placing them in danger of
immediate adverse consequences such as accidental injury and
alcohol poisoning, or encouraging other high-risk behavior patterns
including unprotected sex. Moreover, a pattern of heavy drinking
established in adolescence and young adulthood may continue into an
adult pattern of alcohol abuse.
Concerned communities and institutions across the nation are
tackling the problem of alcohol use and abuse by young people.
Research-based knowledge is urgently needed to inform these efforts
and to ensure that limited prevention resources are used as
effectively as possible. The origins of youthful alcohol use and
abuse are found within the complex interplay of individual
characteristics, family and peer influences, the larger societal
context for alcohol use, environmental conditions, and maturational
processes that accompany adolescence.
This volume, which began as a special issue of the "Journal of
Research on Adolescence," contains all of the material from the
journal issue plus additional chapters. It helps researchers to
meet the tremendous challenge of disentangling the key determinants
of risk, and developing effective interventions. Primary sources of
influence on youthful alcohol use are described, ranging from
individual expectancies about alcohol effects and cognitive
decision processes to parenting practices, peer influences, social
environments, and economic factors; and a corresponding range of
prevention interventions is discussed. This book will serve as a
primer to those with an interest in developing and improving
effective programs and activities to reduce alcohol-related
problems among young people. For those engaged in prevention
research, the text will provide useful reviews and current findings
that should aid in directing future research activities.
