One of the most important factors in ensuring successful
osseointegration is the stability of the implant after its
insertion. In order to achieve optimum conditions for implantation,
it is often necessary to prepare the area and reconstruct the bone
to ensure that it is the correct shape and size for the implant.
Preprosthetic and maxillofacial surgery provides a thorough review
of the current status and future direction of this important field.
Part one reviews bone grafting for implantology and reconstructive
preprosthetic surgery. Chapters in part two discuss reconstruction
and rehabilitation whilst the final group of chapters analyse
tissue engineering applications.
Nolan Wallach's mathematical research is remarkable in both its
breadth and depth. His contributions to many fields include
representation theory, harmonic analysis, algebraic geometry,
combinatorics, number theory, differential equations, Riemannian
geometry, ring theory, and quantum information theory. The
touchstone and unifying thread running through all his work is the
idea of symmetry. This volume is a collection of invited articles
that pay tribute to Wallach's ideas, and show symmetry at work in a
large variety of areas. The articles, predominantly expository, are
written by distinguished mathematicians and contain sufficient
preliminary material to reach the widest possible audiences.
Graduate students, mathematicians, and physicists interested in
representation theory and its applications will find many gems in
this volume that have not appeared in print elsewhere.

Amino Acid Analysis (AAA) is an integral part of analytical
biochemistry. In a relatively short time, the variety of AAA
methods has evolved dramatically with more methods shifting to the
use of mass spectrometry (MS) as a detection method. Another new
aspect is miniaturization. However, most importantly, AAA in this
day and age should be viewed in the context of Metabolomics as a
part of Systems Biology. Amino Acid Analysis: Methods and Protocols
presents a broad spectrum of all available methods allowing for
readers to choose the method that most suits their particular
laboratory set-up and analytical needs. In this volume, a reader
can find chapters describing general as well as specific approaches
to the sample preparation. A number of chapters describe specific
applications of AAA in clinical chemistry as well as in food
analysis, microbiology, marine biology, drug metabolism, even
archeology. Separate chapters are devoted to the application of AAA
for protein quantitation and chiral AAA. Written in the highly
successful Methods in Molecular Biology (TM) series format,
chapters contain introductions to their respective topics, lists of
the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily
reproducible laboratory protocols, and notes on troubleshooting and
avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and accessible, Amino Acid
Analysis: Methods and Protocols provides crucial techniques that
can be applied across multiple disciplines by anyone involved in
biomedical research or life sciences.
This is a book for people who want to improve their lives through
spiritual growth. It introduces the principles of Love, Compassion,
Understanding, Honor, Honesty, Humility, which the author has
tested herself and found to be true. These principles are presented
with simple explanations and exercises to help the individual on
this rewarding journey. There are examples from the author's own
experiences to demonstrate the principles. The exercises are the
same ones the author has used and found helpful in her own journey.
Greater peace and happiness are among the benefits that the author
experienced as a result of applying these principles and exercises
to her life. She also no longer takes prescription blood-pressure
medication as a result of pursuing a spiritual life style. The book
is designed to be the first step in understanding and starting the
process of self-improvement and, thus, improving the quality of and
satisfaction in life.
Lexicography, together with grammatical studies and textual
criticism, forms the basis of biblical exegesis. Recent decades
have seen much progress in this field, yet increasing
specialization also tends to have the paradoxical effect of turning
exegesis into an independent discipline, while leaving lexicography
to the experts. The present volume seeks to renew and intensify the
exchange between the study of words and the study of texts. This is
done in reference to both the Hebrew source text and the earliest
Greek translation, the Septuagint. Questions addressed in the
contributions to this volume are how linguistic meaning is
effected, how it relates to words, and how words may be translated
into another language, in Antiquity and today. Etymology, semantic
fields, syntagmatic relations, word history, neologisms and other
subthemes are discussed. The main current and prospective projects
of biblical lexicology or lexicography are presented, thus giving
an idea of the state of the art. Some of the papers also open up
wider perspectives of interpretation.

Dr. BRUNO BLOCH, professor of the Dermatological clinic of Zurich,
began a new era of eczema research by attempting to sensitize
guinea pigs to primula. It was during this period that I had the
pleasure of being Dr. BLOCH's chief resident, and could observe
these experiments. It was only in 1955 that Dr. E. BUJARD,
professor of Histology of the University of Geneva, Dr. R. BRUN,
chief of laboratories of my Dermatology Department and I began to
work in the field of experimental eczema on the nipples and flanks
of guinea pigs. Besides these collaborators, to whom I am very
grateful, a few others have participated in our experiments. Among
these new co-workers the most im portant was Mrs. NICOLE HUNZIKER,
chief resident of my clinic. From 1960 on, she worked on the eczema
experiments with guinea pigs. Our research has been conside rably
advanced by Dr. HUNZIKER. Untill now we have published 30 communica
tions on this subject, but the publications about our results have
been very short. It now seemed appropriate to publish a monograph
and Dr. HUNZIKER undertook this very toilsome task. I would like to
take this occasion to thank her for her many years of collaboration
both in the clinic and in the laboratory. I am also very grateful
to Professor BUJARD who, in spite of the fact that he is retired,
continues to work with us. We continually profit from his great
experience. Dr.
Our colleagues from the French-speaking parts of Switzerland - the
Suisses romands - and above all the committee of the 3rd Cycle, e
Earth Sciences (3 Cycle, Sciences de la Terre) honored us by asking
us to give a course on Isotope Geology for the year 1977. The
course, entitled Evaluation et Interpretation des Donnees
Isotopiques (eval uation and Interpretation of Isotopic Data), was
intended to inform earth scientists, graduate and postgraduate,
from the western Swiss Universities on the subject of Isotope
Geology. Such courses usually consist of two parts: lectures and
excursions. Thus, in March 1977, we gave such a two-week course at
the Miner alogical Institute of the University of Berne. The first
week was devoted essentially to the methods of dating, the second
week to the behavior of stable isotopes. In July 1977, on the
occasion of an excursion to the Central and Western Alps, we were
able to demonstrate our results. Guest professors were invited to
make contributions to the course."

lustvoll vermitteln lassen.
