The augmentation of urban spaces with technology, commonly referred to as Media Architecture, has found increasing interest in the scientific community within the last few years. At the same time architects began to use digital media as a new material apart from concrete, glass or wood to create buildings and urban structures. Simultaneously, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researchers began to exploit the interaction opportunities between users and buildings and to bridge the gaps between interface, information medium and architecture. As an example, they extended architectural structures with interactive, light-emitting elements on their outer shell, thereby transforming the surfaces of these structures into giant public screens. At the same time the wide distribution of mobile devices and the coverage of mobile internet allow manifold interaction opportunities between open data and citizens, thereby enabling the internet of things in the public domain. However, the appropriate distribution of information to all citizens is still cumbersome and a mutual dialogue not always successful (i.e. who gets what data and when?). In this book we therefore provide a deeper investigation of Using Information and Media as Construction Material with media architecture as an input and output medium.

Convergence proposes the enhancement of the Internet with a novel, content-centric, publish–subscribe service model based on the versatile digital item (VDI): a common container for all kinds of digital content, including digital representations of real-world resources. VDIs will serve the needs of the future Internet, providing a homogeneous method for handling structured information, incorporating security and privacy mechanisms. Chemical exchange exists through the different layers that form their interiors, and also from the interior to the surface. The most convincing evidence is certainly the discovery of water vapour and ice particles emerging from Enceladus's active south polar region. Evidence for exchange with a subsurface liquid ocean has also been provided by the inference of hydrated salts on the surfaces of Jupiter's moons, Europa and Ganymede, as well as the detection of sodium salts in particles originating in Enceladus's plumes. Aqueous exchange with the rocky core may also be possible, considering that 40Ar has been observed in the plumes of Enceladus during one flyby of Cassini and in the atmosphere of Titan. The ongoing CH4 replenishment in Titan's atmosphere is additional striking evidence of exchange processes within the moons.

Algebraic specification, nondeterminism and term rewriting are three active research areas aiming at concepts for the abstract description of software systems: Algebraic specifications are well-suited for describing data structures and sequential software systems in an abstract way. Term rewriting methods are used in many prototyping systems and form the basis for executing specifi cations. Nondeterminism plays a major role in formal language theory; in programming it serves for delaying design decisions in program development and occurs in a "natural" way in formalisations of distributed processes. Heinrich Hussmann presents an elegant extension of equational specification and term rewriting to include nondeterminism. Based on a clean modeltheoretic semantics he considers term rewriting systems without confluence restrictions as a specification language and shows that fundamental properties such as the existence of initial models or the soundness and completeness of narrowing, the basic mechanism for executing equational specifications, can be extended to nondeterministic computations. ETAPS 2001 is the fourth instance of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. ETAPS is an annual federated conference that was established in 1998 by combining a number of existing and new conferences. This year it comprises ve conferences (FOSSACS, FASE, ESOP, CC, TACAS), ten satellite workshops (CMCS, ETI Day, JOSES, LDTA, MMAABS, PFM, RelMiS, UNIGRA, WADT, WTUML), seven invited lectures, a debate, and ten tutorials. The events that comprise ETAPS address various aspects of the system - velopment process, including speci cation, design, implementation, analysis and improvement. The languages, methodologies and tools which support these - tivities are all well within its scope. Di erent blends of theory and practice are represented, with an inclination towards theory with a practical motivation on one hand and soundly-based practice on the other. Many of the issues involved in software design apply to systems in general, including hardware systems, and the emphasis on software is not intended to be exclusive.

In this book, Hussmann builds a bridge between the pragmatic methods for the design of information systems and the formal, mathematical background. Firstly, the principal feasibility of an integration of the different methods is demonstrated. Secondly, the formalism is used as a systematic semantic analysis of the concepts in SSADM, a British standard structured software engineering method. Thirdly, a way of obtaining a hybrid formal-pragmatic specification using a combination of SSADM notations and formal (SPECTRUM) specifications is shown. This well-written book encourages scientists and software engineers to apply formal methods to practical software development problems.

Der dritte Workshop "Software Engineering im Unterricht der Hochschulen (SEUH)" findet am 24. und 25. Februar 1994 in Munchen statt. Nach zwei SEUH- Workshops (1992 Stuttgart, 1993 Hamburg), in denen ein Erfahrungsaustausch auf breiter Basis im Vordergrund stand, behandelt dieser Workshop zusatzlich zu der Diskussion uber didaktische Konzepte das Schwerpunktthema "Anforderungen an SEUH aus Sicht der Industrie". Um dieses Thema kompetent diskutieren zu koennen, wurden Referenten aus verschiedenen Firmen eingeladen, die Erfahrungen mit der Integration von Hochschulabsolventen in die betriebliche Prws haben (W. Altrnann (K&A), U. Bittner (START), R. Haggenmuller (SNI), G. Mathy (Allianz), J. Wolle (Rohde & Schwarz)). Weitere wichtige Themen werden in zwei Arbeitsgruppen behandelt, denen auf diesem Workshop viel Zeit eingeraumt wird. Ziel der Arbeitsgruppen ist es, einen Entwurf eines Software-Engineering-Curriculums und Handlungsempfehlungen zum Einsatz von CASE-Werkzeugen in der Lehre zu erarbeiten. In beiden Fallen ist das Ergebnis der Diskussion als Grundlage fur eine kontinuierliche Zusammenarbeit uber den Workshop hinaus gedacht. Im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit steht daher folgende Hypothese: Es erscheint denkbar, dass einige wenige, aussagekraftige fundamentale Rechnungslegungsdaten, als erklarende Variablen innerhalb eines okonometrischen Modells, bessere Schatzwerte fur potentielle Marktpreise generieren, als es das Multiplikatorverfahren leistet. Dies zeigt sich in alltaglich zu beobachtenden Punkten wie: zunehmende Prasenz von Frauen auf dem Arbeitsmarkt, kontinuierlichere Erwerbsphasen und hohere Ausbildungsbereitschaft, abnehmende Kinderzahlen und steigende Scheidungsquoten. Empirische Erhebungen jedoch zeigen, dass Angebot und Nachfrage nach Arbeit unterschiedlich zwischen Mannern und Frauen verteilt sind. Der Frauenanteil ist in den vergangenen Jahren zwar kontinuierlich gestiegen, in den Wirtschaftsbereichen ist die Frauen/-Mannerverteilung aber zum Teil deutlich ungleich. Es stellt sich die Frage nach dem Grund der asymmetrischen Verteilung und des im Verhaltnis zu den Mannern geringeren Erwerbsanteils. In der Literatur wird haufig das Arbeitsverhalten mit Hilfe der Humankapitaltheorie beschrieben. Die vorliegende Arbeit behandelt die Frage, ob ein Zusammenhang zwischen Frauenerwerbstatigkeit und Bildung in Industrielandern besteht. Aus der Sicht der Humankapitaltheorie wird gepruft, ob der Grad der Bildung das Erwerbsverhalten oder auch die Erwerbsmoglichkeit der Frau beeinflusst. Daher wird im dritten Abschnitt das Konzept des Humankapitalansatzes vorgestellt und eine bedeutende Erweiterung des Modells spezifiziert. Unter Punkt 4.1 wird insbesondere diskutiert, inwiefern die Voraussetzungen des Humankapitalansatzes eine Anwendung auf die zu untersuchende Frage erlauben.
