Continuing the tradition of previous workshops, IWDW 2007 also featured-besides papers dealing with digital watermarking-contributions from other related fields, such as steganography, ste- nalysis and digital forensics.

th The 8 International Workshop on Digital Watermarking (IWDW 2009) was hosted by the University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey, UK, during August 24 26, 2009.As with previous workshops, IWDW 2009 aimed to providea balanced program covering the latest state-of-the-art theoretical and practical devel- ments in digital watermarking, steganography and steganalysis, and the eme- ing area of image forensics. The selection of the program was a challenging task for the Technical Programme Committee members and reviewers, who ensured the highest quality and reputation of the workshop. From around 50 submissions received from authors in 14 countries, the c- mittee selected 26 regular papers (22 oral and 4 poster presentations). In - dition to the contributed papers, the workshop featured three keynote lectures on watermarking, cryptography and forensics kindly delivered by internati- ally renowned experts, Ingemar Cox, Fred Piper and Ed Delp, respectively. Since its birth in the early 1990s, digital watermarking has become a mature e- bling technology for solving security problems associated with multimedia distri- tion schemes. Digital watermarks are now used in applications like broadcast mo- toring, movie fingerprinting, digital rights management, and document authentication, to name but a few. Still, many research challenges remain open, among them security and robustness issues, reversibility, and authentication. Continuing the tradition of previous workshops, IWDW 2008 also featured besides papers dealing with digital watermarking contributions from other related fields, such as steganography, ste- nalysis, and digital forensics. The selection of the program was a challenging task. From more than 62 subm- sions (received from authors in 15 different countries) the Program Committee - lected 36 as regular papers. At this point we would like to thank all the authors who submitted their latest research results to IWDW 2008 and all members of the Program Committee who put significant effort into the review process, assuring a balanced program. Since then, it has been hosted successfully by Beijing, China, in 2001, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2002, Singapore in 2003, and Tokyo, Japan, in 2004, and finally Jeju, one of the most beautiful and fantastic islands in Korea. This year, we accepted 181 papers out of 570 submissions including regular and special session papers. The acceptance rate of 32% indicates our commitment to ensuring a very high-quality conference. This would not be possible without the full support of the excellent Technical Committee and anonymous reviewers that provided timely and insightful reviews. We would therefore like to thank the Program Committee and all reviewers. The program of this year reflects the current interests of the PCM s. The accepted papers cover a range of topics, including, all aspects of multimedia, both technical and artistic perspectives and both theoretical and practical issues. The PCM 2005 program covers tutorial sessions and plenary lectures as well as regular presentations in three tracks of oral sessions and a poster session in a single track. We are delighted to welcome the attendees of the Fourth International Wo- shop on Digital Watermarking (IWDW). Watermarking continues to generate strong academic interest. Commercialization of the technology is proceeding at a steadypace. We haveseen watermarkingadoptedfor DVD audio.Fingerpri- ing technology was successfully used to determine the source of pirated video material. Furthermore, a number of companies are using watermarking as an enabling technology for broadcast monitoring services. Watermarking of digital cinema contentis anticipated. Future applications may also come from areas- related to digital rights management. For example, the use of watermarking to enhance legacy broadcast and communication systems is now being considered. IWDW 2005 o?ers an opportunity to re?ect upon the state of the art in digital watermarking as well as discuss directions for future research and applications. This year we accepted 31 papers from 74 submissions. This 42% acceptance rate indicates our commitment to ensuring a very high quality conference.
