Will the Christian church live or die? What is the way ahead?
Answering these questions, this book challenges all people of God
to seek unity in and beyond the norms of dogma and hierarchy.
Ian M Fraser, a member of the Iona Community, wrote Reinventing
Theology as the Peoples Work in 1980 for two specific conferences
that were to take place in the 1980s. Since then, the ideas it puts
forward have become relevant in a much wider context and this book
has helped to raise interest in peoples theology worldwide. Its
underlying conviction is that just as ministry belongs to more than
just the clergy, so does the task of theologising belong to all and
not just to the professional theologian. Doing theology goes hand
in hand with Christian living, and reflecting on faith accompanies
Christian discipleship. With an MA and BD with distinction in
Systematic Theology, Ian Fraser entered industry in 1942 as the
first of what became a worker-priest/pastor movement. Far from
abandoning the ministry an accusation levelled against him at the
time he was in fact searching for authentic ministry and a more
relevant theology. For him, the concern of this book has been a
lifelong preoccupation.
Traces the part of the rooting system which derives from the
founding of the Iona Community in Scotland in the 1930's as an aid
to understanding in terms of historical roots, distinctive features
and experiences of struggle the significance of these communities.
A collection of stories taken from personal experience and combined
with prayers appropriate to each story's theme. Its sections - In
God's Wrath, In God's Church, In God's Enterprise and Faith's
Testing - are designed to help stimulate and challenge others in
the understanding of faith.
