during pivotal moments of the Second World War. Set in Churchill's
Cabinet Office and War Rooms, the programme follows Britain's
leader orchestrating the allied war effort alongside some of his
influential appointments including Generals Montgomery (Ian
Richardson) and Brooke (Eric Porter). Following America's decision

Hill) and his trusted generals, Marshall (Joseph Cotten) and

Bilderberg People explores the hidden mechanisms of influence at
work in the private world, and personal interactions, of the
transnational power elite. It is not concerned with conspiracy
theories; instead it is about certain fundamental forces that shape
the world in which we live. These forces, with their power to bring
about transitions in emotion and preference within, and beyond, the
elite community have potentially profound implications for all of
us. Through exclusive interviews with attendees of the most
prestigious of all informal transnational networks -- Bilderberg --
this book provides a unique insight into the networking habits and
motivations of the world's most powerful people. Moreover, it
demonstrates that elite consensus is not simply a product of
collective common sense among the elite group; rather, it is a
consequence of subtle power relationships within the elite circle.
These relationships, which are embedded in the very fabric of elite
institutions and interactions, result in a particular brand of
enlightened thinking within the elite community. This exciting new
volume sheds light for the first time on the critical question of
who runs the world and why they run it the way they do.

Double bill of BBC espionage drama mini-series based on the novels
by John Le Carré and starring Alec Guinness as master spy George
Smiley. In 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' (1979), Smiley has been
in 'retirement' for some time, some say owing to his mishandling of
the Czech scandal. However, the retiring superspy finds himself
summoned back to the 'Circus' (British secret service) when it
transpires that an enemy infiltrator is at work in the department.
Smiley returns once again to his old department in 'Smiley's
People' (1982) following the murder of his friend, General
Vladimir, a Russian who once worked for British Intelligence. When
it transpires that Vladimir was in fact a double agent, Smiley
becomes engaged in a battle of wills with his old adversaries at
the Moscow Centre.

In the future, a clerk at the all-powerful Ministry of Information
sticks to his ideals and ends up crushed by the system in this half
comedy, half horror story from former 'Monty Python' animator Terry
Gilliam. Like Orwell's novel '1984', which it echoes, the future is
seen from a 1940's perspective. Jonathan Pryce stars, with Robert
De Niro making a cameo appearance as an excessively diligent sewage
inspector.
Box set containing the Urquhart trilogy: three series based on the
bestselling novels by Michael Dobbs, starring Ian Richardson as
corrupt politician Francis Urquhart. In 'House of Cards', Urquhart
is a long-serving MP who has his eye on the top job, and will stop
at nothing to fulfil his ambition. As the trusted Chief Whip, he
has insider knowledge that could bring down the already precarious
Prime Minister, and in order to unleash his power he draws innocent
young journalist Mattie Storin (Susannah Harker) into his schemes.
'To Play the King' continues to follow Urquhart's career. Having
been made Prime Minister at the end of the last series after
murdering an investigative reporter, he now crosses swords with the
newly crowned monarch (Michael Kitchen) - a passionate man with
firm liberal beliefs on the future of the country. In the final
part of the trilogy, 'The Final Cut', Urquhart is well on his way
to becoming Britain's longest-serving Prime Minister, and is
starting to plan his retirement. He still has the Cyprus peace
treaty to tie up, however, and the dark secrets from his past are
beginning to come back to haunt him.

Never mind though, probation officer Chloe (Alice Evans) is keeping a watchful eye on Cruella, and with a little canine help she's going to do her best to foil the fur-lover's evil antics.
