Se realizo un estudio descriptivo transversal para describir la incidencia de las patologias oftalmologicas en pacientes diagnosticados con VIH/sida en el municipio Yaguajay en el ano 2008. El examen oftalmologico es de gran importancia, pues permite no solo preservar la funcion visual sino tambien realizar el diagnostico precoz de enfermedades que aun no se han manifestado. La poblacion en estudio fueron todos los pacientes diagnosticados con VIH/sida en el municipio (18), por lo que no hubo necesidad de seleccionar una muestra. Se estudiaron las variables: edad, sexo, consejo popular, tratamiento recibido, localizacion, etiologia de las manifestaciones e infecciones oftalmologicas y su agudeza visual. Los datos se presentaron en tablas a las cuales se les realizo analisis porcentual. En el grupo de estudio la mayor incidencia se encontro en el sexo masculino y en las edades de 26 - 35 anos para ambos sexos. El mayor numero de afecciones oftalmologicas se localizo en los anexos y fondo de ojo, su principal etiologia fueron las infecciones, dentro de estas las blefaritis y retinitis fueron las mas frecuentes. El mayor porciento, conserva aun buena vision entre 0,6 - 1,0."
