Open spaces, sport and outdoor recreation are important components
of people's lives. They provide many cultural, social, economic and
environmental benefits and contribute positively to physical and
mental health. Everyone, particularly children, the elderly and
those with disabilities, should have easy access to open space and
the opportunity to participate in sport and outdoor recreational
pursuits. The primary purpose of sports parks is to provide for
organised sports and physical activity. These spaces need to
function with a high degree of organisation and should cater for
sports uses ranging from junior team training to major competitive
events, at both the local and city-wide levels. This impressive
book features the newest design projects from designers around the
world, and offers new and exciting ideas for sports park landscape
design.

Architectural plans generally are beset by problems as the project
develops. A prospective architect needs to learn how to critically
assess and problem-solve any design issues. And to every problem
there is a solution, using the 'Fifteen Principles' for solving
design problems efficiently. With nearly 20 projects from
well-known architects, this book provides an unmissable opportunity
to learn from the experts. Famous architects walk through the
design process, with full-colour photographs, drawings and sketches
of ideas. Each architect examines design problems encountered
during the project, and offers examples of critical thinking that
resulted in practical solutions. This book will form a valuable
reference for architects and students.
Provides indepth analysis of Eric Owen Moss' philosophical and
engineered solutions to architecture and design, often representing
paradigm shifts in focus The work of Eric Owen Moss Architects is
about "making it new," and the aspiration to uncover new ways to
think, to feel, to see, and to understand architecture and this
essential concept is the departure point for Eric Owen Moss
Architects. This firm's oeuvre is underscored by its unique
approach to design, which is that it's convinced the world renews
itself, and that architecture has the capacity to offer alternative
venues as human affairs continue to be re-imagined. Showcasing
highly illustrated and richly photographed works, this volume
illuminates how Eric Owen Architects avoids traditional
organisation strategies, standardised design solutions, and any
notion of architecture as simply a repetitive style. This book
delves into how the firm is fascinated both by individual
buildings, and that evolving inter-relationship between building
and city, and the interrogation of that urban/building exchange in
a search/research of alternative design tactics, methods, and
techniques that will obligate and modify both building and city.
Spanning four decades, Eric Owen Moss Architects has designed a
variety of award-winning buildings that continue to re-shape the
discourse of international architecture. The Eric Owen Moss office
works across a range of typologies and continues to educate through
prolific engagement, including master planning, building designs,
exhibits, lectures, publications, and teaching around the world.
AUTHOR: Eric Owen Moss was honoured with the Academy Award in
Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1999,
and has received numerous honours for his work. Moss has held

2006 he received the AIA|LA Educator of the Year in 2006, and the
Most Admired Educator Award from the Design Futures Council in

Modern Urban Landscapes is a significant contribution to the
conversation on sustainable landscape design, providing energy
efficient models and water saving landscape ideas. There are many
factors that would help realise energy efficient landscapes,
including (but not limited to) the use of energy saving lamps, such
as LED; the integration and adoption of renewable energy, including
solar-powered and wind-powered landscape lighting; energy-efficient
landscape design, particularly through the correct placement and
selection of shade trees, and the creation of wind breaks. This
book shows techniques for creating landscapes that also save water,
for example by choosing correct planting materials; reducing
stormwater run-off through the use of bio-swales, rain gardens and
green roofs and walls; reducing water usage in landscapes through
best-practice water-wise garden techniques, including irrigation
using gray water. Permeable paving materials can also help to
reduce stormwater runoff and allow rainwater to infiltrate into the
ground and replenish groundwater rather than run into surface water
systems.
Ken Yeang remains one of the world's foremost experts on
sustainability and the modern skyscraper. Acknowledging that the
skyscraper is possibly one of the most ecologically unfriendly of
all building types, he states that until an economically viable
alternative is identified, it is necessary to make them as humane
and as sustainable as possible. Each project is presented together
with data on its climatic location, the local vegetation, plot
ratio, net and gross areas.

and beautiful cities.
