Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
The River Thames Book, now in its seventh edition, is the
best-selling guide to the non-tidal Thames from Teddington to its
source in Gloucestershire. This complete guide covers the Barrier
to Cricklade with the River Wey, Basingstoke Canal and the Kennet
& Avon Canal to Great Bedwyn. Chris Cove-Smith's updated text
describes the navigation with support of clear and detailed
mapping. The River Thames Book also lists in exhaustive detail the
facilities to be found along each section of the navigation.
This 8th edition has been fully revised to include new information
on marinas, visitor moorings and anchorages, with all the attendant
facilities available to cruising sailors. There is also plenty to
give historical context and to whet the appetite for visits and
exploration ashore. Plans have been updated throughout. Numerous
photographs help to orientate, inform and inspire, including a new
set of images for the Italian coast and Venice lagoon. For
occasional charterers or long-term cruisers alike, Trevor and Dinah
Thompson's thorough and comprehensive work should be the first
choice of any cruising sailor wanting to make the most of this rich
and diverse coastline. Adriatic Pilot is complemented by Imray's
series of charts for the Dalmatian coast.
West Aegean is a companion guide which provides details of places
that are mentioned only lightly in Greek Waters Pilot. It is
particularly useful for charterers, flotilla sailors and others
based in the area. There is in depth information on getting around,
places to visit on land and background information which cover
topics ranging from food and wine to Greece's Classical past and
ancient sites. Rod and Lu Heikell's writing is acclaimed and their
pilotage notes, supported by plans and photographs many of which
have been taken by Lu, are regarded as the last word on the areas
that they cover.
Plans included: Continuation of North Ionian Islands to Nisis
Othoni (1:185 000) Vorion Steno Kerkiras (1:70 000) Ormos Gouvion

Imray-Tetra charts for the Ionian and Aegean are widely
acknowledged as the best available for the cruising sailor. They
combine the latest official survey data with first-hand information
gathered by Rod and Lucinda Heikell. The chart is designed to be
used alongside Imray pilot guides of the area. Like all Imray
charts, they are printed on water resistant Pretex paper for
durability, and they include many anchorages, facilities and inlets
not included on official charts. This edition includes the latest
official data combined with additional information sourced from
Imray's network to make it ideal for small craft. It includes the
latest official bathymetric surveys. There has been general
updating throughout.
Since J W Norie published the first edition of his Complete Set of
Nautical Tables and Epitome of Practical Navigation in 1803, many
changes to the tables have been necessary in both content and
presentation. New tables have been included, obsolete ones deleted
to conform with changing techniques of navigation, with the aim of
improving the accuracy of the calculated position and reducing the
tedium of the calculation. Since the commissioning of the Global
Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), its proven accuracy and
reliability in all weather conditions have resulted in confidence
and almost unquestioning dependence on its ability to provide a
vessel’s position, course and speed. Its use is widespread but
the marine environment is a hostile one and failure of electronic
equipment or of the system itself is a possibility. No prudent
seafarer would proceed on an ocean passage without a reliable
navigational back-up. The Explanation is in the form of a detailed
step-by-step description, by means of worked examples, of the
different methods of performing navigational calculations using a
scientific calculator and/or the tables. A number of esteemed
editors have worked on Nories’ Nautical Tables over the years and
this edition includes new contributions from François Hugo. This
edition now presents formulae in an appropriate format for direct
entry to a scientific calculator. Because the possibility of
navigation without even an appropriate calculator exists, the
logarithms have been retained. • All the tables required for
coastal and deep sea navigation are included • A simple uniform
method of interpolation for all the trigonometrical tables is used
• Certain tables and data are also included which are not readily
available on board ship or are only used in the examination room.
Plans included: Marmaris Limani (1:50 000) Skopea Limani (1:100
000) Goecek (1:25 000) Fethiye (1:35 000) Approaches to
Kastellorizo and Kas (1:75 000) Imray-Tetra charts for the Ionian
and Aegean are widely acknowledged as the best available for the
cruising sailor. They combine the latest official survey data with
first-hand information gathered by Rod and Lucinda Heikell. The
chart is designed to be used alongside Imray pilot guides of the
area. Like all Imray charts, they are printed on water resistant
Pretex paper for durability, and they include many anchorages,
facilities and inlets not included on official charts. This edition
includes the latest official data combined with additional
information sourced from Imray's network to make it ideal for small
craft. The latest harbour developments at Goecek are included as is
latest official bathymetric survey data. There has been general
updating throughout.
Full information on boating facilities is included in the mapping,
as are all the essential details on restricting dimensions, locks
and bridges. Also shown are pubs, the Thames Path and other
features of special interest. Large-scale insets of Oxford,
Abingdon, Reading, Henley, Windsor and Eton, the River Wey junction
and the entrance to the Grand Union Canal add to the clarity of
this well presented map.
Within easy reach of all the main harbours and marinas lie an
abundance of lochs and islands with numerous idyllic anchorages to
explore. Some of these are easy to find, others pose more of a
navigational challenge and are accessed via intricate channels
using a series of well-described transits, others lie beyond
turbulent tidal sounds. All reward with stunning scenery and there
is somewhere for everyone, whether on a first-time visit, or a
return to familiar waters. This new edition, updated by Edward
Mason, continues the long-respected legacy of CCC publications for
cruising sailors. Information on harbours and marinas has been
thoroughly revised, and plans have been updated throughout. Several
new photographs have been included to help to identify key
navigational features as well as to entice further exploration.
Details on plans have been updated with reference to the Imray
chart pack for the area (2800 Kintyre to Ardnamurchan). References
to Bob Bradfield's useful Antares large scale charts are also
included. Supplements are available to download from the club's
website.
A Different View of Curriculum and Assessment links a theoretical
pedagogical model with a sympathetic practical model of curriculum
and assessment difference for those with PMLD, CLD and SLD. Split
into two parts, this accessible resource combines theoretical
explanations with first-hand accounts of how this works in
educational establishments, through the analysis of evidence-based
practice carried out in a number of English special (specialist)
schools. The expert authors challenge the notion that a national,
or common core standards, curriculum, however expertly
differentiated, is fit-for-purpose for the PMLD, CLD and SLD
populations in any country. A Different View offers cogent and
reasoned arguments for considering that irrespective of age, such
learners learn differently to their neuro-typical, conventionally
developing peers. If they learn differently, this book shows how we
should be teaching them differently. Reflecting the centrality of
process over product, this book will clearly explain how each
individual learner might be enabled and facilitated to become the
best they can be and do the best they can do, in order to fully
realise their potential as equal and independent citizens.
The second edition of this well-received title from the Royal
Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation covers the entire Mediterranean
mainland coast of Spain from Gibraltar to the French border. This
is the only detailed pilot for the Spanish Mediterranean coast
running up from Gibraltar to the border with France. It covers a
varied cruising area that includes the mountain-backed Costas del
and Sol and Blanca, the expansive lagoon of the Mar Menor, the
low-lying Ebro delta and the rugged Costa Brava. In between are
several great cities including Malaga, Valencia, Tarragona and
Barcelona, the Catalan capital. The volume opens with Gibraltar and
La Linea. With Imray charts for the same coast, Mediterranean Spain
provides all the data necessary for anyone based in Spain,
transiting to and from areas further East or the Balearics, or just
exploring this rich and varied coast and its hinterland. The
coverage has been revised with the text updated, new plans added
and other plan updates based on the latest information. This
edition has been enhanced by the addition of over 100 aerial
photographs showing coastline and harbour approaches.

Fully revised for its third edition, the Oxford Handbook of
Expedition and Wilderness Medicine continues to be the essential
resource for all expedition medics and well-informed travellers, as
well as nurses, paramedics, medical students, and other expedition
members travelling in remote, wilderness areas of the world. Now
containing more guidance about caving medicine, the third edition
includes revised and additional illustrations and essential maps of
the spread of diseases. Clear and concise, readers can rely on this
handbook to provide the key knowledge and practical advice they
need. It enables efficient preparation and planning before the
journey, advises on camp logistics, risk management, and medical
problems during the expedition, as well as highlighting rare but
important risks to those visiting remote areas. Focusing on
preventative measures, it also contains chapters dealing with
crisis management, emergency care, and evacuation from challenging
environments, with guidance about the obligations of a clinician
joining an expedition, ethical approaches to such work, and
medicine in various extreme environments. This edition will give
you the confidence and skills you need to travel to any extreme or
remote environment. Incorporating the combined knowledge and
experience of a team of experienced clinicians and expeditioners,
this is a practical, easy-to-use guide to all aspects of expedition
and wilderness medicine.
The intricate and stunning coastline of lochs and islands offers a
rich and varied cruising ground with a multitude of anchorages,
many beneath a dramatic backdrop of munros. This third edition,
updated by Edward Mason, includes revised text and a selection of
new photographs. Details on plans have been updated and include
information from Bob Bradfield’s Antares large scale charts. This
well-respected title is an essential companion for anyone cruising
these waters. “A typical high quality Imray product: clear print
on good paper with profuse illustration by chartlet and
photography; edited with all the authority of those who have
‘been there’. There is much fine aerial imagery and a robust
spiral binding allows open-flat handling, convenient for chart
table and cockpit use. An impressive successor to the
well-respected originals”. Edward Cartner, Cruising Magazine
‘Like its predecessor, it is comprehensive, with an abundance of
information, clear navigational directions, easily read plans and
some beautiful photographs.’ Royal Cruising Club.
