Although conventional cogeneration systems have been used
successfully in the last two decades, most of them have been large
units using mainly hydrocarbon fuels that are becoming increasingly
expensive. New cogeneration systems based on fuel cells and
sorption air conditioning systems promise to be an energy-saving
alternative for situations when cooling, heating and power are
needed at low and medium capacities. Cogeneration Fuel
Cell-Sorption Air Conditioning Systems examines the thermodynamic
principles of fuel cell performance and sorption air conditioning
systems, and gives relevant information about the state of the art
of these technologies. It also provides the reader with the
theoretical bases and knowledge needed to understand the operation
of these new cogeneration systems, as well as discussing the design
basis and economical evaluation. Topics covered include: * selected
fuel cells for cogeneration CHP processes; * state-of-the-art
sorption refrigeration systems; * potential applications in
demonstration projects; and * profitability assessment of the
cogeneration system. Air conditioning and fuel cell engineers;
postgraduates and researchers in energy fields; and designers of
cooling, heating and power cogeneration systems will find
Cogeneration Fuel Cell-Sorption Air Conditioning Systems a useful
and informative reference.
This insightful volume examines key research questions concerning
police decision to arrest as well as police-led diversion. The
authors critically evaluate the tentative answers that empirical
evidence provides to those questions, and suggest areas for future
inquiry. Nearly seven decades of empirical study have provided
extensive knowledge regarding police use of arrest. However, this
research highlights important gaps in our understanding of factors
that shape police decision-making and what is required to alter
current police practice. Reviewing this research base, this brief
takes stock of what is known empirically about all aspects related
to the use of arrests, providing important insights on the
knowledge needed to make evidence-based policy decisions moving
forward. With the potential to better impact policy and programs
for alternatives to arrest, this brief will appeal to researchers
and practitioners in evidence-based policing and police
decision-making, as well as those interested in alternatives to
arrest and related fields such as public policy.

This book presents the latest scientific and technical advances in
the fields of Smart Cities and Smart Territories. It shows outcomes
of 2nd Sustainable Smart Cities and Territories International
Conference in Manizales (Colombia) on June 21–23, 2023. The
concept of smart cities, which emerged in the early 2000s, attempts
to solve these challenges by implementing information and
communication technologies. The initial concept of smart cities
focused on the modernization of megacities.
This book addresses methods used in the synthesis of light alloys
and composites for industrial applications. It begins with a broad
introduction to virtually all aspects of the technology of light
alloys and composite materials for aircraft and aerospace
applications. The basic theory of fiber and particle
reinforcements; light metallic material characteristics and
composite systems; components forms, and manufacturing techniques
and processes are discussed. The book then progresses to describe
the production of alloys and composites by unconventional
techniques, such as powder metallurgy, sandwich technique, severe
plastic deformation, additive manufacturing, and thermal spray,
making it appropriate for researchers in both academia and
industry. It will be of special interest to aerospace engineers.
Provides a broad introduction to the technology used in
manufacturing light alloys and composite materials; Describes the
current technologies employed in synthesizing light alloys made
from advanced materials; Focuses on unconventional techniques used
to produce light alloys and composites in aerospace applications.

"The Making of the Modern Law: Trials, 1600-1926" collection
provides descriptions of the major trials from over 300 years, with
official trial documents, unofficially published accounts of the
trials, briefs and arguments and more. Readers can delve into
sensational trials as well as those precedent-setting trials
associated with key constitutional and historical issues and
discover, including the Amistad Slavery case, the Dred Scott case
and Scopes "monkey" trial."Trials" provides unfiltered narrative
into the lives of the trial participants as well as everyday
people, providing an unparalleled source for the historical study

The search for biomarkers is a critical task in cancer research
since understanding, diagnosis and prognosis of the illness can be
greatly enhanced through them. This work represents an effort to
make this search more effective and efficient when analyzing data
from microarray experiments. The result is a novel method based on
multiple criteria optimization that does not require the adjustment
of parameters by the users, thereby allowing the consistent
identification of important genes with potential biomarking
characteristics. The high discrimination rate and accuracy of the
method is evidenced through a series of applications in this work
where potential biomarkers for cervix and colon cancer are
presented.
