Creatinine, a muscle waste product, is widely interpreted as a
measure of renal function. However, the serum level reflects not
only renal excretion, but also the generation, intake, and
metabolism of creatinine. In this book, the authors present current
research in the study of the production, diagnostic uses and role
in renal disease of creatinine. Topics include the diagnostic use
of creatinine in pre-eclampsia; serum creatinine and its effect and
management in renal and hepatic disease; evaluation of renal
function in patients with cirrhosis; the role of creatinine in
kidney disease in neonates, infants and children; and retinol X
creatinine in kidney disease.
