R2,829 Discovery Miles 28 290 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

It is a general trend in computing that computers are becoming ever smaller and ever more interconnected. Sensor networks - large networks of small, simple devices - are a logical extreme of this trend. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are attracting an increasing degree of research interest, with a growing number of industrial applications starting to emerge. Two of these applications, personal health monitoring and emergency/disaster recovery, are the focus of the European Commission project ProSense: Promote, Mobilize, Reinforce and Integrate Wireless Sensor Networking Research and Researchers. This hands-on introduction to WSN systems development presents a broad coverage of topics in the field, contributed by researchers involved in the ProSense project. An emphasis is placed on the practical knowledge required for the successful implementation of WSNs. Divided into four parts, the first part covers basic issues of sensors, software, and position-based routing protocols. Part two focuses on multidisciplinary issues, including sensor network integration, mobility aspects, georouting, medical applications, and vehicular sensor networks. The remaining two parts present case studies and further applications. Topics and features: presents a broad overview of WSN technology, including an introduction to sensor and sensing technologies; contains an extensive section on case studies, providing details of the development of a number of WSN applications; discusses frameworks for WSN systems integration, through which WSN technology will become fundamental to the Future Internet concept; investigates real-world applications of WSN systems in medical and vehicular sensor networks; with a Foreword by the Nobel Laurate Professor Martin Perl of Stanford University. Providing holistic coverage of WSN technology, this text/reference will enable graduate students of computer science, electrical engineering and telecommunications to master the specific domains of this emerging area. The book will also be a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners interested in entering the field.

R1,348 Discovery Miles 13 480 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Although comprehensive knowledge of cyber-physical systems (CPS) is becoming a must for researchers, practitioners, system designers, policy makers, system managers, and administrators, there has been a need for a comprehensive and up-to-date source of research and information on cyber-physical systems. This book fills that need. Cyber-Physical Systems: From Theory to Practice provides state-of-the-art research results and reports on emerging trends related to the science, technology, and engineering of CPS, including system architecture, development, modeling, simulation, security, privacy, trust, and energy efficiency. It presents the research results of esteemed professionals on cutting-edge advances in cyber-physical systems that include communications, computing, and control. The book consists of eight sections, each containing chapters contributed by leading experts in the field. Each section covers a different area that impacts the design, modeling, and evaluation of CPS, including: Control systems Modeling and design Communications and signal processing Mobility issues Architecture Security issues Sensors and applications Computing issues The book's coverage includes cyber-physical system architecture, mobile cyber-physical systems, cyber-physical systems for intelligent (road/air) transportation, and cyber-physical system applications and standardization. With the CPS field advancing so rapidly, this book is an ideal reference to help researchers, system designers, and practitioners manufacture devices that are compatible with CPS standards. Presenting numerous examples that illustrate practical applications derived from theory, the book is also suitable for use as a textbook in upper undergraduate and graduate-level university courses.

The 7th International Conference on Adhoc, Mobile and Wireless Networks (AdHoc-NOW 2008) was held at INRIA Sophia Antipolis - M editerran ee, on the French Riviera, during September 10-12,2008. The six previous conferences intheserieswereheldinMorelia(2007), Ottawa(2006), Cancun(2005), Vanc- ver (2004), Montreal (2003) and Toronto (2002). The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for researchers from academia/industry and practitioners to meetandexchangeideas regardingrecentdevelopmentsintheareasofad-hoc wireless networks. AdHoc-NOW 2008 received 110 submissions submitted by authors form the following 33 countries: Algeria, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, the UK and the USA. Each paper was assigned to three members of the Technical Program Committee (TPC). Based on the reviews, we decided to accept 39 submissions as regular papers, 24 of them with 25 minutes' oral presentation time, and 15 as poster presentations. All of the accepted papers appear in this volume. We thank the three invited speakers at this conference, Srdjan Krco (Er- sson, Ireland), Xuemin (Sherman) Shen (University of Waterloo, Canada), and Stephan Olariu (Old Dominion University, USA) for accepting our invitation to share their insights on new developments in their research areas."
