A range of electronic corpora has become increasingly accessible
via the WWW and CD-ROM. This development coincided with
improvements in the standards governing the collecting, encoding
and archiving of such data. Less attention, however, has been paid
to making other types of digital data available. This is especially
true of that which one might describe as 'unconventional', namely,
the fragmentary texts and voices left to us as accidents of
history. This book is a first step toward developing similar
standards for enriching and preserving these neglected resources.

This book brings together contributions from global experts who
have helped to facilitate the exciting and rapid advances that are
taking place in microbial metabolomics. The main application of
this field is in clinical and veterinary microbiology, but there is
a great potential to apply metabolomics to help to better
understand complex biological systems that are dominated by
multiple-species microbial populations exposed to changing growth
and nutritional conditions. In particular, environmental (e.g.,
water, soil), food (e.g., microbial spoilage, food pathogens), and
agricultural and industrial applications are seen as developing
areas for microbial metabolomics. As such, the book includes
contributions with clinical, environmental, and industrial
perspectives.

Taree's memories and dreams invoke an image of a woman who smiles
down at her. Is this just her own mind's creation as it reaches out
for comfort and security? Or is this woman someone from the past
that Taree just can't seem to remember? Explore Taree's world as
she grows into a woman who triumphs over fear and discovers
friendship and love.
While conducting research on their own families in early Illinois
newspapers, Mrs. Beals and Mrs. Kirchner realized that others could
benefit from the wealth of genealogical material they had
discovered. This volume is the result of their continuing efforts
to make this valuable information on Illinois families available to
fellow researchers and historians. The deaths and related items
included here are abstracted from the articles and notices
appearing in The Camp Point Journal and dated between the years
1873 and 1882. Records are listed alphabetically by the name of the
principal subject in each entry. The entries themselves are often
rich in interesting information about the deceased, their family
members, or others who were in some way connected to the deceased.
Many entries include the names of spouses, children, parents, other
relatives, friends, physicians, pastors, and often those who
discovered the body of the deceased. Supplemental information on
the circumstances surrounding the death are usually included. In
cases of murder, the perpetrator is often named as well.
Integrated Architectures and Network Centric Warfare represent two
central concepts in DoD's on-going transformation. The true power
of integrated architectures is brought to bear when they are
combined with simulation to move beyond a static representation and
create an executable architecture. This architecture can then be
used to experiment with system configurations and parameter values
to guide employment decisions. This thesis applies the methodology
of Dr. Alexander Levis, former Chief Scientist of the Air Force, to
the static architecture representing the Aerospace Operations
Center (AOC). Using Colored Petri Nets and other simulation tools,
an executable architecture for the AOC's Air Tasking Order (ATO)
production thread was developed.
"The Crow Scare" introduces a young, accomplished kindergarten
teacher who lives a quiet, satisfying life with her prize beagle.
Although actually quite attractive, her indifference toward fashion
and appearance often defines her as a woman of average beauty, a
label she is only too happy to wear. When she receives an anonymous
Halloween card, a gift bearing homemade candy also materializes on
her porch. A friend, convinced that the gift holds malice, calls
the police and an investigation then ensues. As her quiet,
monotonous life is laid open, she is compelled to face repressed
memories from the past--memories that have unwittingly secluded her
from genuinely enjoying her present and which preclude her from
planning a truly gratifying future. As new people are introduced
into her life, the teacher, whose goal it is to help caterpillars
to become butterflies, eventually understands that she, herself,
has refused to leave the cocoon.
Odious Initiation is a chiaroscuro collection of poetry inspired by
the author's observation of spiritual abuse as it took place in
both the virtual and physical worlds around her.

"The Uninvited" explores the effects of spiritual abuse. As
Margaret Zeiler clings to cherished memories from her past, she
finds herself wrestling with a growing uneasiness. Willing to make
many sacrifices, she chooses to ignore that she often remembers
things differently from the others that she works with. But soon
she begins to doubt her very essence. When spiritual unity involves
deception, tensions increase and her role as an outsider escalates.
Her troubling dreams become her lifeline: sometimes the "struggle
is not against flesh and blood" (Ephesians 6:12).
This is a schoolteacher's personal account of living with multiple
sclerosis. It is a timely, witty source of valuable information.
The book points out how one lives with a degenerating disease and
continues to smile in a positive and encouraging way.
