Improving weather and climate prediction with better representation of fast processes in atmospheric models Many atmospheric processes that influence Earth’s weather and climate occur at spatiotemporal scales that are too small to be resolved in large scale models. They must be parameterized, which means approximately representing them by variables that can be resolved by model grids. Fast Processes in Large Scale Atmospheric Models: Progress, Challenges and Opportunities explores ways to better investigate and represent multiple parameterized processes in models and thus improve their ability to make accurate climate and weather predictions. Volume highlights include: Historical development of the parameterization of fast processes in numerical models Different types of major sub-grid processes and their parameterizations Efforts to unify the treatment of individual processes and their interactions Top-down versus bottom-up approaches across multiple scales Measurement techniques, observational studies, and frameworks for model evaluation Emerging challenges, new opportunities, and future research directions The American Geophysical Union promotes discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity. Its publications disseminate scientific knowledge and provide resources for researchers, students, and professionals.

The main purpose of this book is to serve as a university textbook for a first course in astronomy. However, we believe that the audience will also include many serious ama teurs, who often find the popular texts too trivial. The lack of a good handbook for am ateurs has become a problem lately, as more and more people are buying personal com puters and need exact, but comprehensible, mathematical formalism for their programs. The reader of this book is assumed to have only a standard high-school knowledge of mathematics and physics (as they are taught in Finland); everything more advanced is usually derived step by step from simple basic principles. The mathematical background needed includes plane trigonometry, basic differential and integral calculus, and (only in the chapter dealing with celestial mechanics) some vector calculus. Some mathematical concepts the reader may not be familiar with are briefly explained in the appendices or can be understood by studying the numerous exercises and examples. However, most of the book can be read with very little knowledge of mathematics, and even if the reader skips the mathematically more involved sections, (s)he should get a good overview of the field of astronomy. This book has evolved in the course of many years and through the work of several authors and editors. The first version consisted of lecture notes by one of the editors (Oja).

The only career planning book available in Canada developed specifically for nursing students This specialized workbook has been written specifically for nursing students as a tool to assist them in the process of planning their future career. Following the Donner-Wheeler "Career Planning and Development Model," the book aims to provide students with practical advice on how to get the most from their education, and subsequently, their careers. Students will learn how to: Develop a clinical learning planAppropriately select coursesDetermine a foci for course assignmentsBalance extracurricular activitiesEstablish a sense of control and direction over their academic careerDevelop a plan for future success

Building on the success of the previous two editions, the fully-updated Third Edition of "Building Your Nursing Career" will serve as a valuable aid to any nursing student, no matter if they are just entering school or are close to graduating.

"This inexpensive text is used from year one to fourth year...The self-assessment and reality check are great for preparing the students and compiling the work they've done in the program. When students interview, I get phone calls and rave reviews on the students because they are interviewing so well. Students are being offered jobs six weeks into senior practicum Students have said this book is the most valuable book to have " - Nursing instructor Kathryn Hyndman, Brandon University

"I spent hours trying to decide what area of nursing I wanted to go into, as well as where I wanted my career to lead me. These have always been questions that I have found hard to answer. With so many different career options how could I choose? This book] uses questions to encourage you to reflect about the things that you enjoy most, and ways in which you currently spend your time. This challenges you to consider ways in which you want to progress through your nursing education to gain the end result of a career that is right for you. It asks you many questions, with plenty of space to write your answers. The final chapter contains information about choosing your first job as a registered nurse, as well as interview technique and some of the possible questions that you may be asked. As a 3rd year approaching interview time I have certainly found this section handy This is a good, valid resource tool, which is very useful when considering and challenging your personal future nursing career." - Nursing student Helen Rowe, Bournemouth University
