On a faraway planet shrouded in obscurity from ancient history,
a powerful race lives. Led by the benevolent and evil King Distar,
the Annunaki have been preparing for their eventual return to
Earth. Only this time, they will not be teachers or the Gods the
ancestors once worshipped. It is December 21, 2012.
Seventeen-year-old Adam Dolby is about to have his world torn
asunder. As the Annunaki begin to invade and decimate the Earth's
resources, Adam's parents confess that they are not his biological
parents, but instead are appointed guardians who have been
instructed to watch over and protect him from the Annunaki people,
who want nothing more than to destroy him. Minutes later, his
parents are dead-the victims of a vicious attack on his home. With
the help of a mysterious and eccentric old man named Mentor, Adam
is soon propelled into a mythical adventure where his mission is to
uncover the origins of the universe and a race of beings called
Eternals.
In this exciting sci-fi adventure tale, a young man awaits in
the shadows to learn the truth of his existence and the fate of the
human race.
This book provides researchers, students, and practitioners with a
methodology to evaluate the impacts of a wide diversity of
development projects and policies on local economies. Projects and
policies often create spillovers within project areas. LEWIE uses
simulation methods to quantify these spillovers. It has become a
complement to randomized control trials (RCTs), as governments and
donors become interested in documenting impacts beyond the treated,
comparing the likely impacts of alternative interventions, and
designing complementary interventions to influence program and
policy impacts. It is also a tool for impact evaluation where RCTs
are not feasible. Chapters 1-4 motivate and present the basics of
impact simulation, including how to design a LEWIE model, how to
estimate the model, and how to obtain the necessary data. The
remaining chapters provide a diversity of interesting real-world
applications and extensions of the basic models. The applications
include evaluations of the impacts of cash transfers for the poor,
ecotourism, global food-price shocks, irrigation projects,
migration, and corruption. Each chapter provide readers with the
tools they need to conduct their own local economy-wide impact
evaluations. All models and data used in this book are available
on-line.
One hundred and fifty years of sustained archaeological
investigation has yielded a more complete picture of the ancient
Near East. The Old Testament in Archaeology and History combines
the most significant of these archaeological findings with those of
modern historical and literary analysis of the Bible to recount the
history of ancient Israel and its neighboring nations and empires.
Eighteen international authorities contribute chapters to this
introductory volume. After exploring the history of modern
archaeological research in the Near East and the evolution of
"biblical archaeology" as a discipline, this textbook follows the
Old Testament's general chronological order, covering such key
aspects as the exodus from Egypt, Israel's settlement in Canaan,
the rise of the monarchy under David and Solomon, the period of the
two kingdoms and their encounters with Assyrian power, the
kingdoms' ultimate demise, the exile of Judahites to Babylonia, and
the Judahites' return to Jerusalem under the Persians along with
the advent of "Jewish" identity. Each chapter is tailored for an
audience new to the history of ancient Israel in its biblical and
ancient Near Eastern setting. The end result is an introduction to
ancient Israel combined with and illuminated by more than a century
of archaeological research. The volume brings together the
strongest results of modern research into the biblical text and
narrative with archaeological and historical analysis to create an
understanding of ancient Israel as a political and religious entity
based on the broadest foundation of evidence. This combination of
literary and archaeological data provides new insights into the
complex reality experienced by the peoples reflected in the
biblical narratives.
Through insightful, high-paced commentary this book directs
attention south, towards Argentina. Current events, political
debates, and the cultural production of artists, authors and public
figures, including Cesar Aira, Maria Moreno, Naty Menstrual and
Copi, among others, provide case studies where heterosexual social
models are rejected and, in their place, queer frameworks become
the preferred model for living differently. Queer Argentina traces
the movements of today's marginalized communities as they pass
through and choose to remain within the closet: a space that is
emblematic of collective struggles in silence and community
formation outside the (hetero)norm.
