This Is A New Release Of The Original 1900 Edition.
James Martineau was for more than four decades a professor in what is now Oxford's Harris Manchester College. His theology integrates the very personal in religious experience with the transcendent and seeks to infuse daily living with the sense of divinity. He retained a sense of awe which rationalism sometimes excludes, and in some ways anticipated Albert Schweitzer's ideas of reverence for life. Notably, Schweitzer also had connections with Harris Manchester.

1900. Other volumes in this set include ISBN number(s): 0766153088. Volume 2 of 2. Text and Notes. Arranged in its constituent documents by members of the Society of Historical Theology, edited with introduction, notes, marginal references and synoptical tables. These volumes are intended to place before English readers the principle results of modern inquiry into the composition of the first six books of the Old Testament. It is hoped that this work may show that cooperation in Biblical research is not only possible but advantageous among students of different religious communities. The one indispensable condition is a common trust that no truth can be established in any field of historical theology without cooperation.
