Sir Joseph John Thomson was an English physicist and Nobel Prize
winner and is credited with the discovery and identification of the
electron and with the discovery of the first subatomic particle.
Thomson is also credited with finding the first evidence for
isotopes of a stable (non-radioactive) element in 1913, as part of
his exploration into the composition of canal rays (positive ions).
Originally published in 1928, this book presents the first of a
series of Founders' Memorial Lectures, delivered at Girton College
on March 3rd 1928. The lecture discusses, debates and deliberates
the many discoveries of modern physics as well as the structure of
the universe, and addresses both the professional scientific
worker, but also students with a non-scientific background. This
fascinating, insightful and ground breaking lecture will be of
considerable value to scholars of physics as well as to anyone with
an interest in the history of science.
Sir Joseph John Thomson (1856-1940) was a British physicist who is
credited with the discovery of the electron. First published in
1933, this volume is one of two books making up the third edition
of a 1903 original by Thomson. The text was greatly enlarged for
this edition, which resulted in its division into two parts, and
incorporates numerous advances in research relating to the
discharge of electricity through gases. Numerous illustrative
figures are provided throughout. This book will be of value to
anyone with an interest in Thomson and his contribution to the
development of physics.

dealing with various aspects of Maxwell's life and achievements,
the text includes contributions from the following figures: J. J.
Thomson; Max Planck; Albert Einstein; Joseph Larmor; James Jeans;
William Garnett; Ambrose Fleming; Oliver Lodge; Richard Glazebrook;
Horace Lamb. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest
in Maxwell and his key role in the development of physics and
mathematics.
