This book explores the Society of Friend's Atlantic presence through its creation and use of networks, including intellectual and theological exchange, and through the movement of people. It focuses on the establishment of trans-Atlantic Quaker networks and the crucial role London played in the creation of a Quaker community in the North Atlantic.

Authors: Hugo Bachmann, Walter J. Ammann, Florian Deischl, Josef Eisenmann, Ingomar Floegl, Gerhard H. Hirsch, Gunter K. Klein, Goran J. Lande, Oskar Mahrenholtz, Hans G. Natke, Hans Nussbaumer, Anthony J. Pretlove, Johann H. Rainer, Ernst-Ulrich Saemann, Lorenz Steinbeisser. Large structures such as factories, gymnasia, concert halls, bridges, towers, masts and chimneys can be detrimentally affected by vibrations. These vibrations can cause either serviceability problems, severely hampering the user's comfort, or safety problems. The aim of this book is to provide structural and civil engineers working in construction and environmental engineering with practical guidelines for counteracting vibration problems. Dynamic actions are considered from the following sources of vibration: - human body motions, - rotating, oscillating and impacting machines, - wind flow, - road traffic, railway traffic and construction work. The main section of the book presents tools that aid in decision-making and in deriving simple solutions to cases of frequently occurring "normal" vibration problems. Complexer problems and more advanced solutions are also considered. In all cases these guidelines should enable the engineer to decide on appropriate solutions expeditiously. The appendices of the book contain fundamentals essential to the main chapters.

This book explores the status of paper-based diagnostic solutions, or Microfluidics 2.0. The contributors explore: how paper-based tests can be widely distributed and utilized by semi-skilled personnel; how close to commercial applications the technology has become, and what is still required to make paper-based diagnostics the game-changer it can be. The technology is examined through the lens of the World Health Organization's ASSURED criteria for low-resource countries (Affordable, Sensitive, Specific, User-friendly, Rapid and robust, Equipment-free, and Deliverable to end-users). Its applications have to include: health technology, environmental technology, food safety, and more. This book is appropriate for researchers in these areas, as well as those interested in microfluidics, and includes chapters dedicated to principles such as theory of flow and surface treatments; components such as biomarkers and detection; and current methods of manufacturing. Discusses how paper-based diagnostics can be used in developing countries by comparing current diagnostic tests with the World Health Organization's ASSURED criteria Examines how paper-based diagnostics could be integrated with other technologies, such as printed electronics, and the Internet of Things. Outlines how semi-skilled personnel across a variety of fields can implement paper-based diagnostics
The enduring challenge for every teacher is providing individual and responsive learning experiences for every student. Factor in other parts of the educator's mission-aligning teaching with content and practice standards, providing worthwhile tasks for class participation and discussion, assessing mathematical understanding and progress-and the challenge is even greater. Transforming the Task with Number Choice presents a uniquely powerful tool to accomplish these goals and more. By choosing and sequencing productive arrays of numbers for problems, you can- meet the needs and strengths of individual learners with accessible, equitable, and differentiated math; address multiple content and practice standards; create rich, worthwhile tasks with multiple entry points; provide opportunities for students to vary their strategies and use the properties of operations; shift students' focus from merely calculating answers to examining number relationships; assess students' abilities and monitor their understanding. Choosing numbers that are "just right" is hard, but Transforming the Task with Number Choice supports and guides you by offering- strategies for aligning problem-solving tasks with students' skills to build their understanding; examples of and strategies for using number choice to address a variety of Common Core (or other) content and practice standards; samples of work illustrating how students respond to different number choices; advice on how to focus on number choice within curricular materials tools for getting started and assessing students' work, including downloadable
