In his novella -Stuff Happens- Markowitz combines elements of
fiction and non fiction in a new form he calls "friction" - a
combination of the fictitious with the real. In The Practice and
Other Stories he writes short stories with satiric wit and Jewish
humor about working class New York characters he had observed
during his growing-up years. Greatly influenced by the movies, he
often turns a satiric camera eye on the details of every day life.
With the publication of Bubbie and Zadie Save the Day Markowitz
retells a Romanian folk tale that his mother often told to him and
his siblings as a rather unusual bed time story. Xlibris is the
publisher of all three books.

Reviews
"Jack Henry's writing is the real deal. No bullshit, no posing.
This is essential American literature."
- Tony O'Neill, "Down and Out on Murder Mile" (Harper Perennial)
I have always admired Jacks writing, his fearless self-revelations
combined with a world-view that is equal parts jaded and
hopeful...the way he turns himself inside out, and then goes down a
little deeper, moves in a bit closer, and, just as you think hes in
for the kill, suddenly]a gentle word, a line so full of such
graceful beauty you get, well, slammed in the face. Again.
- Puma Perl, "Belinda and her Friends" (Erbacce Press)
Jack Henrys poetic voice speaks here again with mastery and
precision...These poems will cut you, then rifle through your
wallet. But they will also reveal vulnerability and humanity while
so doing. This is a book you need.
- David McLean, " Hellbound" (Epic Rites Press)
Jack Henry's large heart, a veteran of wars, accidents, fears,
madness, disillusion, is, in these 80 different dance halls of
image and sound, breaking invisible bread with jesus as the latter
downs his meds with shots of tequila, while on the corner of 6th
and Los Angeles Streets the meteor of hope has crashed into Obama's
tag team and the churches of the sky are rolling across clouds of
Charlie Parker's smoke.

"My Return" is sure to provoke intense public discussion and
controversy. The author, Jack Henry Abbott, is now serving a
fifteen-years-to-life sentence for the 1981 stabbing of Richard
Adan, a young night manager of the Binibon Cafe on Manhattan's
Lower East Side. Except for a short-lived escape from prison in
1971, Abbott had been incarcerated in one institution or another
since he was thirteen years old. His parole placed him in another
potentially violent environment, but one that had a completely
different set of rules. He has consistently maintained that he
thought Richard Adan was carrying a knife and that his attack on
Adan was the result of that perception. "My Return" is Jack
Abbott's and Naomi Zack's story of the death of Richard Adan, the
ensuing trial, and Abbott's return to prison. It is comprised of
"The Death of Tragedy", a play based on the actual court records;
an illustrated appendix giving stage directions and the background
of the issues and people involved; and "Men of Letters", a
collection of Abbott's essays on a variety of topics - religious,
philosophical, historical, and literary - including an
autobiographical account of his tragic life.
