Training the Right Stuff (Hardcover): Mark A. Frankel, Tommy H. Thomason Training the Right Stuff (Hardcover)
Mark A. Frankel, Tommy H. Thomason; Illustrated by Jack Morris
R2,117 R1,580 Discovery Miles 15 800 Save R537 (25%) Ships in 12 - 17 working days

A comprehensive study of the training aircraft used to transition the United States military into the jet age. At the end of World War II, high-performance jets with unfamiliar operating characteristics were replacing propeller-driven airplanes. As accident rates soared, the Air Force and Navy recognized the need to develop new trainers to introduce fledgling as well as experienced pilots to jet flight. The first step occurred in 1948, when a two-seat jet trainer, the T-33, was developed with private funds. It was welcomed by the Air Force and subsequently the Navy, allowing both services to start building modern air arms. Over time other new trainers were developed to serve specific needs while innovations, such as high fidelity simulators, accelerated the process, reduced costs, and increased safety. The evolution continues today with the goal of producing high-quality newly winged aviators for assignment to operational squadrons.

The Family Experience of Dementia - A Reflective Workbook for Professionals (Paperback): Gary Morris, Jack Morris The Family Experience of Dementia - A Reflective Workbook for Professionals (Paperback)
Gary Morris, Jack Morris; Foreword by Kate Swaffer
R736 Discovery Miles 7 360 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Dementia not only affects the person presented with the diagnosis, but their family and friends too. This book provides practitioners with strategies to support the whole family and understand their dementia journey both pre- and post-diagnosis. This is facilitated through a series of activities and reflective prompts. There is also a dedicated chapter offering structured exercises for health and social care practitioners and students. The book introduces the Lawrence family, where Peter has been diagnosed with dementia, and provides perspectives from each family member, allowing practitioners to become acquainted with the lived experience of everyone involved. The reflective questions allow readers to become actively engaged to maximise their knowledge and understanding, and to better contextualize what the dementia experience feels like for family and friends. With its focus on the all-important lived experience of the whole family during the diagnostic process and beyond, this is essential reading for any practitioner working with people with dementia.

Jerry Jordan - Together Always Our Spirit: Michael Clawson, Jack Morris Jerry Jordan - Together Always Our Spirit
Michael Clawson, Jack Morris
R3,449 Discovery Miles 34 490 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Since his first visit to Taos at age nineteen, Jerry Jordan was "captured" by the land, sky, and Indigenous peoples of Northern New Mexico. "I will never forget the feeling of awe," he says. "I remember taking a deep breath and thinking, How would I paint that?" Six decades later, Jordan remains in awe with each colorful canvas conveying his oneness with the common threads that unite people across time and place. This insider's look at Jordan's career highlights times of agony and defeat, chance encounters, and divine interventions. It's an inspired tale in which Jordan reminds us that we are all "riding on the back of hope, pointing our face toward our dreams . . . and walking our destiny with the God-given talent placed in our DNA." Often compared to art by the fabled Taos Society of Artists, Jordan's paintings are distinguished by loads of paint, vibrant pigments, animated brushwork, pulsing patterns, and titles that speak to the soul.

The Code - Baseball's Unwritten Rules and Its Ignore-at-Your-Own-Risk Code of Conduct (Hardcover): Ross Bernstein The Code - Baseball's Unwritten Rules and Its Ignore-at-Your-Own-Risk Code of Conduct (Hardcover)
Ross Bernstein; Foreword by Rob Dibble, Torii Hunter, Jack Morris
R871 R696 Discovery Miles 6 960 Save R175 (20%) Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Hockey has always been a sport steeped in a culture of violence, and players universally calibrate the level of physical contact by adhering to unwritten rules known simply as The Code. As mysterious as it is sacred, The Code is the bible of hockey sportsmanship that is handed down from generation to generation. The Code picks up where the rulebook leaves off and fills in the gaps, all in an effort to govern the game and its players--allowing them to compete in a manner deemed fair and respectful. To fully understand the significance and history behind The Code, Ross Bernstein, author of more than 30 sports books, interviewed more than 50 current and former NHL players, coaches, and media personalities. Their insights and stories explain why fighting is allowed in the National Hockey League and how The Code allows the players to police themselves both on and off the ice. That is what The Code is all about--respect, accountability, pride, and honor.
