Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the

A Fruitful Field for Researching Data Mining Methodology and for
Solving Real-Life Problems
Contrast Data Mining: Concepts, Algorithms, and Applications
collects recent results from this specialized area of data mining
that have previously been scattered in the literature, making them
more accessible to researchers and developers in data mining and
other fields. The book not only presents concepts and techniques
for contrast data mining, but also explores the use of contrast
mining to solve challenging problems in various scientific,
medical, and business domains.
Learn from Real Case Studies of Contrast Mining
Applications
In this volume, researchers from around the world specializing in
architecture engineering, bioinformatics, computer science,
medicine, and systems engineering focus on the mining and use of
contrast patterns. They demonstrate many useful and powerful
capabilities of a variety of contrast mining techniques and
algorithms, including tree-based structures, zero-suppressed binary
decision diagrams, data cube representations, and clustering
algorithms. They also examine how contrast mining is used in
leukemia characterization, discriminative gene transfer and
microarray analysis, computational toxicology, spatial and image
data classification, voting analysis, heart disease prediction,
crime analysis, understanding customer behavior, genetic
algorithms, and network security.
This anthology presents translations of thirty songs about Ilya
Muromets, Dobrynya, Sadko, and other legendary characters of
Russian folklore.
An extensive introduction provides basic background about
Russian epics, their poetics, the history of their collection,
their performance context, and their main interpretations. In
addition, there is a short introduction to each song, explaining
its plot, allusions, and interpretations. A glossary of common
terms and a selected bibliography of studies about the Russian epic
in English and Russian are also included in the volume.

proceedings of the 16th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge
Discovery and Data Mining, PAKDD 2012, held in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia, in May 2012. The total of 20 revised full papers and 66
revised short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 241
submissions. The papers present new ideas, original research
results, and practical development experiences from all KDD-related
areas. The papers are organized in topical sections on supervised
learning: active, ensemble, rare-class and online; unsupervised
learning: clustering, probabilistic modeling in the first volume
and on pattern mining: networks, graphs, time-series and outlier
detection, and data manipulation: pre-processing and dimension
reduction in the second volume.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference
proceedings of five international workshops held in conjunction
with PAKDD 2011 in Shenzhen, China, in May 2011: the International
Workshop on Behavior Informatics (BI 2011), the Workshop on Quality
Issues, Measures of Interestingness and Evaluation of Data Mining
Models (QIMIE 2011), the Workshop on Biologically Inspired
Techniques for Data Mining (BDM 2011), the Workshop on Advances and
Issues in Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinical Data Mining (AI-TCM

WISE 2008 was held in Auckland, New Zealand, during September 1-3,
at The Auckland University ofTechnology City Campus Conference
Centre. The aim of this conferencewasto providean
internationalforum for researchers, professi- als, and industrial
practitioners to share their knowledge in the rapidly growing area
of Web technologies, methodologies, and applications. Previous WISE
c- ferences wereheld in Hong Kong, China (2000), Kyoto, Japan
(2001), Singapore (2002), Rome, Italy (2003), Brisbane, Australia
(2004), New York, USA (2005), Wuhan, China (2006) and Nancy, France
(2007). The call for papers created considerable interest. Around
110 paper s- missions were received and the international Program
Committee selected 31 papers out of the 110 submissions (an
acceptance rate of 28. 2%). Of these, 17 papers were chosen for
standard presentation and the remaining 14 papers for short
presentation. The authors of the accepted papers range across 13
co- tries: Australia, China, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea,
New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland and the USA. The
technical track of the WISE 2008 program o?ered nine paper
presentation sessions. The selected - pers covered a wide and
important variety of issues in Web information systems engineering
such as querying; search; ranking; trust; peer-to-peer networks; -
formation ?ltering; information integration; agents and mining. A
few selected papers from WISE 2008 will be published in a special
issue of the World Wide Web Journal, bySpringer. Inaddition, a
$1000prizewasawardedto the authors

all authors who submitted their papers and the Program Committee
members andexternalreviewersfor their excellent work.
Philip James Bailey's Festus was an artistic sensation in the
Victorian period, a best-seller across the Anglophone world and
broadly influential on other writers. This edition marks the first
time it has been published in over 100 years, featuring the poem's
first lineation and a contextualization of its scientific and
theological imagery. Scholars and students will benefit from a
general introduction to Bailey's life and work with a thematic
guide to the poem that made him famous and appendices containing
illustrations from period lithography.
This book presents a detailed critical analysis of a period of
significant formal and thematic innovation in Muriel Spark's
literary career. Spanning the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s, it
identifies formative instances of literary experimentation in texts
including The Comforters, The Driver's Seat and The Public Image,
with an emphasis on metafiction and the influence of the nouveau
roman. As the first critical study to draw extensively on Spark's
vast archives of correspondence, manuscripts and research, it
provides a unique insight into the social contexts and personal
concerns that dictated her fiction.
