Fight for Freedom is a story of determination, passion, loss,
betrayal, and ultimate triumph. Take a wagon train of former slaves
and freemen heading to start a new life in west Texas, add some men
determined to keep them from reaching their destination, toss in a
rancher who will do anything to drive the settlers from the land
they've chosen for their new town, add in an order from the
Governor to protect the emigrants, and you have a recipe for a
whole passel of trouble for Lieutenant Jim Blawcyzk and his Texas
Ranger partners. It will take only one spark to ignite this powder
keg. Ride along with the visionary leader of the settlers, Adrian
Chatman, and Jim Blawcyzk' s Rangers on their perilous trek more
than halfway across Texas. To survive, they will not only have to
take on the Texas wilderness with all its dangers, but also those
who will stop at nothing to prevent them from building their
settlement. Will they be able to overcome almost overwhelming odds
to attain the promise of a new life of freedom?
In Bullet for a Ranger, the latest novel in the Texas Ranger Jim
Blawcyzk series, Jim is locked in a jail cell in the town of
Quitaque, accused of murdering a saloon woman while in a drunken
rage. Even though the idea of the happily married, loyal family
man, non-drinking and church-going Blawcyzk being involved with a
saloon entertainer, then killing her, is extremely far-fetched, the
evidence against the Ranger Lieutenant is so strong even he has to
admit he stands a good chance of being convicted. Worse, Jim has no
recollection of the night or the events in question. His only sure
ally is the priest from the local Catholic mission, and even the
good padre has his doubts about Blawcyzk's innocence. Hoped-for
help from one of his fellow Rangers has failed to materialize, and
the date for Blawcyzk's trial is fast approaching. Somehow, Jim
must figure out who is really the woman's killer, or face a quick
hanging. Solving the mystery from his cell is proving to be an
almost insurmountable task.
Texas Ranger Lieutenant Jim Blawcyzk is on the trail of the men
responsible for the killing of a fellow Ranger and the
disappearance of another. Jim's search will draw him into a web of
deception, greed, and murder, where even a lawman's best friend may
well be his deadly enemy. As Jim inserted the knife into a chink in
the rocks, a bullet smacked into the wall just alongside his head,
followed by the sharp crack of a rifle. Jim dove to his belly,
pinned behind the inadequate cover of the ledge's slight lip as the
hidden rifleman swept the rocks with an almost impossibly rapid
fire. As the barrage of lead stopped for a brief instant, Jim
chanced lifting his head ever so slightly, scanning the canyon in
an attempt to locate the bushwhacker. "Got him spotted, on the rim
over to the other side of the canyon," he said, as a glint of
sunlight reflected off the gunman's rifle barrel for an instant.
"Not that it'll do me much good," he muttered, ducking back as his
assailant finished reloading and again swept the ledge with a
rapid-fire volley. "My Winchester's still on my saddle, and he's
way outta range for a six-gun, even tryin' a lucky shot. He can
keep me pinned down here long as he wants. And sooner or later he's
gonna nail me." As bullets whined over his precarious perch, Jim
glanced downward, then, taking a desperate chance, threw himself
over the edge of the shelf.
"Nobody writes Westerns with more heart and soul than James J.
Griffin. Guaranteed enjoyment for any Western fan "
James Reasoner, author of "TEXAS WIND" and "THE CIVIL WAR BATTLE
SERIES."
"Jim Griffin brings to life fictional characters interspersed
with real life experiences in the same voice as Max Brand and Louis
L'Amour. This fifth novel in the series is as riveting as the first
four." Sergeant Jim Huggins, Texas Rangers Company F.
When a series of robberies and murders breaks out in north
Texas, Ranger Jim Blawcyzk and his partner Smoky McCue are ordered
to track down the killers. Their assignment is complicated by a
dying eyewitness's claim the outlaws are United States Army
cavalrymen. After a train is robbed and the crew viciously
murdered, the Rangers are forced into a desperate race to stop the
renegades before they strike again.
Jim raced through the coach, leapt the gap to the next car, and
had walked halfway up its aisle when Brady rose from behind a seat
to level his gun at the Ranger. Jim had just begun to thumb back
the hammer of his Colt when the train lurched and he was thrown off
balance, the gun falling from his hand and spinning out of reach as
he went to his knees. Brady took slow, deliberate aim at Jim's
chest.
Comanches and rustlers are wreaking havoc on the settlers of the
Nueces Strip...the Texas no-man's land between the Nueces River and
the Rio Grande. Texas Ranger Lieutenant Jim Blawcyzk is assigned to
a company of Rangers with orders to bring the renegades to
justice...or die trying. BORDER RAIDERS is a gritty, action-packed
tale of the Texas frontier, when a few brave lawmen brought justice
to the far reaches of the Lone Star State. Jim Blawcyzk, Winchester
now empty, charged across the camp, Colt in hand, Sam, his veteran
war horse, twisting and turning, making the horse and his rider
elusive targets. Jim ripped the big gelding around at a shout
behind him. You won't get away from me this time, Lieutenant, Tom
Sullivan shouted, as he dropped to one knee, drawing a bead on
Blawcyzk's chest. As Blawcyzk galloped straight at the renegade
Ranger, his snap shot missed, taking Sullivan's hat from his head.
Just before Sullivan could fire, Sam lowered his head, and clamped
his teeth onto Sullivan's shoulder. Sullivan screamed in pain as
the horse's wicked teeth sank into muscle and bone. over him,
trampling him into the dust.
Texas Ranger Lieutenant Jim Blawcyzk is hunting for outlaw Ned
Scanlon. In order to track down the wily renegade, Blawcyzk will
not only have to use all of his skills as a lawman, but will also
have to confront the ghosts of his own past.
"Trail of The Renegade" is a fast-paced novel of frontier Texas,
where the Texas Rangers matched wits with outlaws throughout the
length and breadth of the Lone Star State.
Saunders rose from his cover, raced to the end of the building
and leapt for the next roof. Jim spun and fired; his snap shot
finding its mark, as the bullet ripped into Saunders side and
lodged in a lung. Saunders twisted sideways from the impact of the
lead, then thudded to the street.
'It's just you and me now, Ranger " Jim whirled to see Kip
Barton emerge from the Spotted Dog. 'I'm givin' you one last
chance, lawman You can turn and run, and mebbe I won't put a bullet
in your back. That's the only way you won't die today."
Deliberately, the youthful gunman slid his Colt .44 back in its
holster. 'There ain't a lawman alive man enough to take my gun "
Barton shouted, as Jim turned to face him.
'We'll just have to find out," Jim quietly replied.
