The wisdom of Confucius, China's greatest teacher and sage, can
guide each of us in our own time.
Twenty-six centuries after their origination, the principles
laid down in the Analects of Confucius still act as the foundation
of Chinese philosophy, ethics, society and government, and play a
formative role in the development of many Eastern philosophies. In
this intriguing look at the ethical and spiritual meaning of the
Analects, Rodney L. Taylor, the foremost American researcher of
Confucius as a religious and spiritual figure, explains their
profound and universal wisdom for our own time. He shows how
Confucius advocates learning and self-cultivation to follow the
"path of the sage" or Way of Heaven a journey that promises to
promote reason, peace and understanding.
Alongside an updated version of the classic translation by
Sinologist James Legge, Taylor provides informative and accessible
commentary that illuminates the meaning behind selected passages
from the Analects and their insights on character development,
respect and reverence, and the nature of learning, goodness,
truthfulness and righteousness."

The Analects Of Confucius Confucius Translated By James Legge
ZHINGOORA BOOKS]
They informed the officer of prayer in the apartment; they seated
the representative of the departed in the hall; they killed the
victim in the courtyard. The head of the victim was taken up to the
apartment. This was at the regular sacrifice, when the officer of
prayer addressed himself to the spirit-tablet of the departed. If
it were (merely) the offering of search, the minister of prayer
takes his place at the inside of the gate of the temple.
Notable not only for its comprehensiveness but also for its
inclusion of the Chinese pictograms, this complete text of the

Western world as well. Here, Legge offers an enlightening
introduction to the *Analects,* copious notes that place the
sayings in cultural context, and much more assistance for the lay
reader in understanding the depth of Confucius' wisdom. This
three-in-one volume, originally published in this form in 1893,
also includes *The Great Learning,* the Confucian illustration of
illustrious virtue, and *The Doctrine of the Mean,* the thinker's
explication of the path of duty. Scottish scholar JAMES LEGGE
(1815-1897) was the first professor of Chinese language and
literature at Oxford University, serving from 1876 to 1897. Among

Religions of China (1880), and the 50-volume Sacred Books of the
East (1879-1891).
1899. Fu Hsi, the first of the Five Emperors of the legendary
period, is said to have been miraculously conceived by his mother
who, after a gestation of twelve years, gave birth to him at
Ch'eng-chi in Shenshi. He taught his people to hunt, to fish and to
keep flocks. He showed them how to split the wood of t'ung tree,
and then how to twist silk threads and stretch them to form rude
musical instruments. From the markings on the back of a tortoise,
he is said to have constructed the Eight Diagrams from which were
developed the whole system of I Ching.
An original classic on Confucian philosophy written in the middle
of the 19th century.
'The Tao that can be trodden is not the enduring and Unchanging
Tao. The name that can be named is not the enduring and unchanging
name.' So begins one of the most important spiritual books on the
planet. The Tao Te Ching, the second most translated book in the
world, was written by the father of Taoism, Lao Tzu. It contains a
series of maxims, sayings, or truths, which are best absorbed
slowly, over a period of time. Anyone with an interest in personal
or spiritual growth should own a copy of this book. Its worth is
immense.
