Es soll versucht werden, diese Widerspruche aufzulosen, indem zwischen (a) unterschiedlich stark kontrollierbaren Ereignisausgangen und (b) verschiedenen Komponenten des Ruckschaufehlers unterschieden wird. Es wird die Annahme uberpruft, dass es bei kontrollierbaren Ereignisausgangen selbstwertschutzend ist, den Vorhersehbarkeitseindruck fur den Ausgang zu reduzieren, um sich von Schuldgefuhlen zu entlasten (selbstwertschutzender Mechanismus; Mark et al., 2003), wahrend es bei unkontrollierbaren Ereignisausgangen die Enttauschung lindert, den Zwangslaufigkeitseindruck zu erhohen (retroaktiver Pessimismus; Tykocinski & Steinberg, 2005). Diese selbstdienlichen Prozesse sollten ausschliesslich in selbstrelevanten Situationen auftreten. Daher versetzten sich die Vpn der Experimentalgruppe (n = 90) als Akteure in drei vorgegebene Szenarien hinein und gaben retrospektiv Vorhersehbarkeits- und Zwangslaufigkeitsurteile fur deren negative Ausgange an. Diese Urteile wurden mit zwei Kontrollgruppen (jeweils n = 60) verglichen, fur die (a) die Ausgange keine Selbstrelevanz besassen bzw. (b) die keine Ausgangsinformationen erhalten hatten. Als weiterer Faktor wurde innerhalb jeder Gruppe die Kontrollierbarkeit (hoch vs. niedrig) des Ausgangs variiert. Trotz recht uneinheitlicher Befunde zu den drei Szenarien konnte gezeigt werden, dass in der Experimentalgruppe bei kontrollierbaren Ausgangen primar die wahrgenommene Vorhersehbarkeit verringert wird.
