'Birkin's diary entries ultimately expose the toxic reality behind
one of the 20th century's most glamorous couples' Sunday Times Jane
Birkin - actor, singer, songwriter and model - attained
international fame with her decade-long musical and personal
relationship with Serge Gainsbourg that featured their
internationally controversial hit song 'Je t'aime...moi no plus'.
She has also enjoyed a notable career as a movie actress in
Blow-Up, Death on the Nile and Evil Under the Sun. Munkey Diaries
re-creates the flamboyant era of Swinging London and
Saint-Germain-des-Pres in the 1970s, and lets us into the everyday
life of an exceptional woman. There are intimate revelations about
Jane's tumultuous life with her first husband, the composer John
Barry, and her romantic and professional collaboration with
Gainsbourg, as well as keen insights into a working life as an
actor, singer and songwriter.
This alternative study of archive and photography brings many types
of image assemblages into view, always in relation to the regulated
systems operating within the institutional milieu. The archive
catalogue is presented as a critical tool for mapping image time,
and the language of image description is seen as having a life, a
worth and an aesthetic value of its own. Functioning at the
intersection of text and image, the book combines media culture,
archival techniques, and contemporary discourse on art and
conceptual writing.

Psychedelic late 1960s pop fantasy released by the Beatles' Apple
films, with music by George Harrison and surreal brightly-coloured
sets. Jack MacGowran plays Oscar Collins, an eccentric butterfly
scientist who becomes obsessed with his neighbour, Penny Lane (Jane
Birkin) after discovering a secret peephole in the wall between
their flats. Penny is a young and beautiful fashion model, who
spends her days in her rainbow painted pop apartment smoking dope,
cavorting around in various states of undress and making love to
her sexy boyfriends. Collins is soon overcome by his delusional
fantasies about her, and repeatedly loses himself in trippy musical
daydreams.

One of Jacques Rivette's most accessible films - a reflection on
theatre and life, mixed with playful references to haunted-house
thrillers and mysterious-mansion whodunnits. The plot concerns
semi-professional actors Emily (Jane Birkin) and Charlotte
(Geraldine Chaplin) and their small theatrical troupe who are
brought to a famous playwright's (Jean-Pierre Kalfon) ornate,
decaying mansion to perform a work-in-progress that seems to mirror
some unexplained recent events in the author's own life. The play
does not have a final act, the playwright tells his guests, because
the story isn't over yet...
